It has been a while since I have been able to get out on the water and post a report. I wanted to try Sommerville but with the FLW and low water I figured Gibbons would be better. I was joined by my brother in law Russel and we hit the water at 6:45. The lake is real low but the ramp is still in good condition. I tried the cast net for the first time and we were able to get a few shad in the 2 to three inch range.

I first went to a point of timber where I have had success before and we put out two rods with the shad and fished with punch bait with two other rods. It was not long and we were getting hits on the puch bait. Light hits and small fish. One of the shad rods bent over and I found a gar at the other end. Fun fight but not what I was hopeing for.

In the end we had 5 box fish with one of them being a nice 17 inch blue. All caught on Cjs in 8 to 9 ft of water. We hit a few different spots but just could not find them. The wind kept shifting or just dieing out all together.

Rough trip all together but still beats not fishing at all.

Gibbons can be really tough right now for the cats. The best I've done has been in deeper water, between 15-20 feet. 20 foot is hard to find out there right now but you can get close. Over on the intake side of the lake there are some good drop off's and rapid depth changes that have produced good fish for me. I used to use CJ's but have now switched to Sudden Impact and shad with some dead red. Tight lines on the bottom or a few feet off the bottom have produced fish. A few more months and the hot water discharge will begin to draw in the big fish.

Thanks for the info. If the wind is not to bad I will try it this Sat and let you know how it goes. Does the sudden impact hold up in the heat like they say?
