I spend the majority of my time fishing out of a kayak and have an All Star spinning rod I really like except for on thing - the handle is to long! Has anyone tried to shorten and balance a rod themselves are does anyone know someone that does this in the Dallas area?

Thanks in advance!

dt, I couild do it for you. How long is the handle now? If you shorten it, it may really throw the rod out of balance then. But there are the weight systems that you can put on there to take care of that. Trouble is, you are just adding more wieght to the rod, which is not a good thing.

It sounds like I may be better off leaving it alone and using it for wading or in the power boat. I really like the rod and don't want to mess it up.

Good choice, regardless of what rod you buy. I try to discourage this type thing, because if I do it and the rod is way out of balance when I get through, then you may look at me and say, hey he screwed my rod up.
