Anyone have any experience with either the pflueger president or pflueger supreme baitcast reels? I'm looking for something that's versatile for a variety of lures, and minimal backlash problems. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I started using the Pflueger President this spring. Bought it at the BPS at the Spring Fishing Classic. I was upset at myself for paying that much for a reel when I have so many others. Once I started using it the guilt went away. Haven't had the first backlash yet. very versatile reel. I mostly use it as a worm reel although I was throwing a spinner bait this weekend. Wentb to the top two as far as my favorite reels.

The Pflueger President is a great reel. I don't believe there is a better reel for the money. I find them to be VERY MUCH free spooling though. They will cast a mile, so don't forget your thumb.

President is a great reel for the money..... It is very smooth and casts great....I only have one reel in my arsenal that I like more and it cost twice as much, so those are hard to compare. I think you will like it !

I have both of these reels and one of the old Curados. I found all 3 to be very good with anything I throw. The Supreme out casts the other 2 but I enjoy using them all.

I have a President and the BPS Johnny Morris, which is the BPS version of the Supreme and am very happy with both. I've fished the President for 3 or 4 years and the BPS JM for 2 or 3 years and have no problems with either. They are both very smooth, feel great in my hand and cast a mile. You can pick up the JM for $119 - $129 on sale at BPS if you watch for it. Edit to add currently on sale for $124.99.

They are different - Purist has 7 bearings and the Extreme has 5 - Purist uses the 6 pin system and the Extreme uses an external system (ITB - Inertial Transfer Breaking). I have one of the new Extremes and it works very well. Overall, I find the BPS reels to be a great value. I own everything from a Diawa Advantage to Shimano Chronarchs. I have not tried the Browning Reels, but I was told by the manager at BPS that the Browning, Pflueger and BPS reels are all made in the same factory. Of course, the best thing of all about the BPS reels is the way they stand behind them.
