My question is....What did you use to fill in the hole? Thanks for the help!

Is it a HOLE or leaking rivets?

Coincidence is His way of remaining anonymous.

Thats the first question.

If its a crack and you can get it welded do that first , if you want to use a sealant the "waterweld" from JB weld is the best I've used.

That spray on rubber sealant I keep seeing commercials for works, believe it or not. I've also used waterproof bathroom sealant when I drilled holes to attach my transducer to and its held for a few years now.

I don't know if either of these is a good idea. But its worked so far.

Hell, they put a screen door in the bottom and it didn't leak.

for the rivets i use a dremel to sand off all the mildew and water gunk and make sure its is completely dry. then i use jbweld putty and place on the rivet. once it has hardened and dried completely you can shape with a dremel and finish it off by brushing on some rubber cement type glue. it works for my little bass tracker. just make sure the inside of the hull is completely dry, if not it will leake down the rivet and compromise the putty. once it is hardened its like a rock.

I had a boat with a gunshot through the hull. Always had to fish with bubble gum.

you can use jb weld, but area has to be very clean then use some 80grit sandpaper and sand the area that will leave scratches in area for the JB weld to get bite and hold they make a quick set Jb weld but make sure completely cured before you use it.

We used epoxy putty, lasted for years on an old tracker.

I jb weld my jon boat. I just slap it on there and it doesn't leak. The bottom was already rough from dragging it on ramps, but it hed fine on smooth spots too. I dont know why anyone would want to use anything else. I just used the normal jb weld thats $5. Very easy.

If its a jon boat put on saw horses and fillit with a half inch of water and find all the leaks.

I take an aluminium soda can and cut off the top and bottom. I use the middle section as a patch. Use sandpaper to rough up the surface around the crack. Straighten the metal if needed. Then take 3M 5051 marine grade sealent and run a bead around and in the crack. Then lay down the soda can patch like a bandaid. Let dry 24 hrs.

Permenant fix. Aluminium is flexable, it flexes while underway. Eventually expoxies will crack or break. Using a sealent like the 5051, will ensure you have flexability and will hold tight. The bandaid patch helps maintain the overall coverage of the sealent and protects it as well.
