I'm looking to make a ultralight combo cause i like to fish in a creek by my house. I have been using a shakespear ultralight trigger spin combo but the drag is horrible and have broken off. i would like to stick with a trigger reel but woudn't mind going with a spinning reel.

Cujo,
Could you give me an idea of your price range?

I got a real nice BPS ultralight rod/reel combo for 49.95. It is 4.5 feet long with a Flueger reel. It is real smooth and a lot of fun to fish with.

I fish some creeks around my house with a 5.5 ft. light action berkley lightning rod (on sale at wal mart for $17 right now...look for the red clearance tags) and any small reel you prefer. I use a $16 Quantum spinning reel from Academy and I love it. Cheap and I clean it up pretty regular and havn't had any problems. Never owned an expensive reel so I don't know or care about what I'm missing.

BPS has thier Tiny Lite spinning combos on sale for $15.99. The rod is 4'6" long and rated for 2 to 6 pound test. The reel that comes on them are 2 ball bearing and has a line capacity of 2lbs./ 195yds., 4lbs./125yds., and 6lbs./65yds. I bought mine last year to go crappie fishing on the banks of creeks, and have been real pleased with them. They are also pretty tough, as Im hard on anything that I take to the creek for bank fishing.

I got a browning superlight spinning combo ($49) from BPS and love it. I also got a BPS UL combo the same day and the rod tip broke on a big bream. It was my first fish of the day. When I took it back I got another browning superlight combo. For a UL rod it's a little stiff but it works great with 1/32 or 1/8 oz jigs or beetle spins.
