Met my brother and sister in law down at Port A. Thursday night. Friday morning we caught mullet in the surf in our nets then launched the boat and headed to the jetties at around 9:30. The wind was blowing and the swells were way to big to get to the end of the jetties so we anchored up on the channel side about half way up the North jetty. The BIG BULLS are home. We fished from around 10:00 to about 3:30 and caught 12 BIG BULLS. Smallest was 24lbs and the biggest was we guessed around 35-37lbs since our 30lb scale was bottomed out hard. we also had 3 fish come loose....Saturday same routine same place but this time we landed 18 BIG BULLS from 25lbs to well over 30 because again to small of scale to get a weight. We had 4 fish pull off. All fish were revived and released. Had one float back up but went back down. I'd love to spend a week down there but don't if my back can handle it. On a side noteif anyone fishing in that area catches a Penn GTO reel mounted on a white Big Game rod it belonged to me. DON'T lay your rods down in Bull Red country!!!!!! Final score 30 Bull Reds..7 pull offs... 1 rod and reel... Good Luck!!!

Bill: Good report. Unfortunately, I get too green getting anywhere near the Jetties, so I had to fish more inland this weekend. I had uncles and brother in laws with us; and landed 7, but broke off about 7. My line just couldn't handle the bulls. After relining with heavy duty line, we improved the landing rate.
The redtide is in the air, I can barely breath.

Yep I lost a 150.00 dollar rig and replaced it with 260.00 dollar rigfrom Roys in Corpus Christi! Go figure! We also went that evening to academy and got two rod holders and mounted them on the front of the boat where I fish. 38.00 bucks apiece but thats alot cheaper than another swimming set up!!!! Wish I was down there now!!! T-Anchor where abouts did yall fish if you don't mind me asking? There was a few boats fishing close to the ferry's. Thanks! Craig

Yea I would give the entry your rod and reel made a very high mark using the diving scale........ it didn't give off much of a splash at all. It did slap the side of the boat pretty hard prior to entry though. Those two days (Friday and Saturday) were fishing at its finest. We had 3 on a one time and several times we had 2 on at a time...... WOW!!!!! I wanted some Ben Gay or equivalent that evening. Wish we were back there right now. ______________ Notch

Talked to my son-in-law a while ago and he reported areas around the jetties at Port A had red tide in the air and they had to move from where we caught our fish due to coughing, sneezing and their lungs burning. They have caught three Reds, one was in the slot ....... the other 2 were oversize. Looked at a report on present red tide conditions and it is present at the PINS, Packery Channel and Port A. Anyone with asthma, upper respiratory problems ,COPD etc. needs to be careful if they are in these areas.

How long does red tide last?
I don't always catch fish, but when I do prefer keepers, stay hungry my friends

I was planning to go fish Bob Hall Pier and the Packery Channel next week...But will be playing it by ear, hoping the red tide doesn't get any worse...So far it seems Port A hasn't been affected that bad, or is getting better... I Don't have any (personal) experience of red tide efects myself...But hear are few reports about it... http://www.ipadio.com/phlogs/NickMeyer/2...utm_content=apiAnother report I found on another site: Wed Oct 12, 2011 10:48 am "I just returned from a survey from the north Fish Pass jetties all the way to the Port A jetties, and I probably counted <dozen fish the entire length of the beach. The water is pulled back, and the sand is packed down nice, so it is a very nice drive. The only thing washing in was some old sargassum, bamboo sticks, and some water hyacinth. The surf is very clean, and the aerosol effects are minimal (and even less the farther north you go). At both jetties, there were loads of finger mullet running the base of the rocks, and I did not see any signs of distressed fish. On a more positive note, I saw a guy leaving the Port A jetty with a beautiful stringer of spanish mackerel." http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/landwater/water/environconcerns/hab/redtide/status.phtml
