Where I was at, it rose almost 6 feet. It could have just been where i was though. From the looks of the take out, I would say at least 3 or 4 feet. But it was still raining hard when i left. I agree some lessons learned there. I have been wanting a new camera, now maybe one can get added to the Christmas list.

Yes I don't think i will ever complain about my fishing poles getting hung up in a tree again. And I only ended up with three stitches in my leg, It will more than likely scar since I used some tape to stop the bleeding LOL. gotta love duct tape

I didn't think about this at the time, Steve, but I sure wish I had posted it earlier:
When camping on the river when you have any chance of rising water, dig a small trench from a little bit above the water line to underneith your head under the tent. If the water rises to above your early warning detector it will run under your tent and wake you up (unless you sleep like the dead). This will give you enough time to break camp, load your kayak, and move to higher ground.

Sorry you had troubles, Steve, but I'm glad you are looking on the bright side, which is you caught a lot of fish and didn't lose your kayak.

Wow what an adventure! Glad you ended up ok. It could have been much worse. I bet the current made the last part of your trip easy.

MR. That is a good tip. I would have never though that me camping 6 feet above the water line would need that though. Live and learn. I have tucked away many tips from trips that have almost gone bad. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger is what I have been told.

sTODDh, if it wouldn't have been for the driving rain the last part of the trip would have been easy. To be honest I was just so glad I was sitting in my kayak nothing really mattered LOL.

It really was a lot of fun. Fishing was good, landscape was good, got the soltiude I was looking for. Re energized for sure. You always wonder how you will perform in an emergency, and I would have to give my self a B. had a few moments of panic, but overall stayed calm, took care of what needed to be and used my surroundings to wait it out. I would go again in a heart beat. Just wish I would have caught a big fish. Going to have to save up and hire YaknYota one of these days. I would love to do his Devils trip with him.

Glad you came out of that ordeal safe. I have a friend that gave me a tip since we have been caught in the same situation with rising water while sleeping. Tie a line from your kayak to a tent pole after you secure it. Then it should help with waking you up in the case of the water rising.

All I can say is wow!! Prayers were answered and you made it out ok. I had a similar experience on the Buffalo once. Not an experience I would want to redo. Yours was much more scary. I didn't think the Brazos would rise that quickly without the dam generating. Now I know better. Get well soon!!
