Very interesting. He resembles the birds I see in the middle of ranch roads at night. They don't take off until you almost run over em. I doubt he is.
I am thinking swallow of sorts...

I am thinking swallow of sorts... COMMON NIGHT HAWK! Always wondered what those birds were. I thought ground owl for the longest time.

Yes it is a nighthawk, their preferred nesting areas are in the fields. As a kid I would stumble onto the nests from time to time. They are insect eaters. Late evenings we would see them dive and make a sort of voorroom sound during their dive. Their eyes are red. They very helpful and harmless.

Does the roof of your office have gravel? Yes it does In cities they will roost on gravel roof tops. They serve as an analog to gravel covered prairies. Look around light posts at night and you will see and hear them feeding. They make a sharp scream. They will be gone in a few weeks. Enjoy while they are here.
