Hey guys, I bought a new BPS Johnny Morris and Tuesday I used it for the first time. As soon as I caught a heavy fish,{6 lbs } the real lost drag and sounds like a transmission going bad. Pure junk, BPS said they would swap it out so I'm thinking #1 Shimano Citica #2 Quantum 860PTX #3 2006 Browning Fishing Midas and #4 Ambassadeur 4007LP. Any suggestions ?

Daiwa Advantage 150 or 153 HST. I love mine!! Great reels for the money! Stay away from the Citica. I have heard numerous problems with them. Don't know much about Quantum other than they say they are hard to get parts for. Never have liked Ambassadeur. They backlashed way too much for me. Hope this helps!

Diawa advantage 150H if they still have them. They had them last weekend for $59. I have two and love them. I think they would be real hard to beat for the money. alakabama

Try the new Quantum Energy or Accurist. Parts are easily available online now and ship with-in 24-48 hrs depending on your reel http://www.tackleservice.com/. I love the new Quantum products since they were sold to a privately held company.

wow! had a feeling the bps morris looked an awful lot like a midus. any way , i sent it back and got a good Shimano spinning reel, only had 1 spinning so I figured with 17 bait casters I would be needing a spinner.

You should look at the Diawa's if you want another baitcaster in the future. I believe I told you so about the Johnny Morris Reels seen it too many times.
Diawa's line around $100 is great Advantage, Costal, and super tuned Advantage are great choices have not had alot of problems on these reels. OCR Custom Rods in Lafayette or Academy in Lafayette also has the Diawa reels. There is a guy that repairs Diawa reels and other major brands of reels, who is also sponsored by OCR custom rods that works behind the reel counter at Academy in Lafayette. He does seem to keep up on the products and know his stuff. If you need reel repairs or advice on a new reel or rod you may want to stop by and see him since he is in your area.
Some of the shops in South East Louisiana are starting to price the new Citca's for $99 all day long and some even $89 when they have specials. Citca's did have some problems with tolerance of the hole on the line guide being too tight against the line guard. Shimano claims they have fixed the problems but some reels could still be floating out there. If anyone runs into it put corrosion x on the rough spot on the line guide until you can bring it to a dealer to switch out or fix it.

I posted earlier about the Johnny Morris reel.
I made the mistake of buying 4 of them a couple of years ago and am now paying for it. No parts, no service, unless you send them to Springfield, MO where cost before shipping and parts is $69.95. And they will break. I now use Shimano but I'm sure Diawa, Quantum and Abu Garcia are good products as well.

Shimano Citica is best bang for my buck. Academy has a sale going on right now for a Citica and All Star Classic Rod combo.
