Brother and i are heading out 1st week of Nov for a little R&R to Degray. Have heard it is tuff and lots of small fish. Any help would be appreciated as he only fishes once a year.
Thanks

it can be tough, but there are good fish in it, you just have to find them

Fished it a couple of times, visibility was around 10ft, deep diving Normans in red hot tomato was pretty good to me. Been a long time wish I could remember more but I remember that Norman.

DeGray Lake: Local angler George Graves said surface water temp is in the mid-70s and the lake is clear throughout. Bass fishing is fair with plenty of fish feeding in the big shad schools between point 15 and Point Cedar. Look for "breaking" fish on both main lake and secondary points early in the morning. Throw a Zara Spook, especially the Zara Puppy, Pop R, Fluke or a 3-inch swim bait. Also several good catches reported from the Caddo Drive Arlie Moore area. Most of these fish are being taken deeper on points, sunken islands and ledges. Fish a Texas rigged worm or lizard down the steep side of the structure. Some bigger fish are coming on a 1/2 ounce jig with a craw trailer. Look for rock or brush cover and fish the lure down to about 25 feet. Red shad and green pumpkin work for the worms and crawfish for the jig. Another good pattern in the early Fall is in the back of major creeks such as Big Hill and Brushy because the shad are now schooling in these areas.

Beautiful lake with a nice convention center/golf course
Gotta drive 30 minutes to buy beer and the fishing wasn't good at all when I was there last fall. I'll pass

I usually fish Ouachita when I go to Arkansas, but I have fished there a few times recently. Had some decent luck on the rocks by the dam and along the sheer drop off between the dam and the marina. Hula grubs in rootbeer on stand-up jig heads, craw colored crankbaits have been the ticket for me. Any kind of crawfish presentation will do. Fish islands on the main lake with dropshot worms in watermelon candy and traps. Also caught a few schooling bass on spooks in 100+ feet of water. Wow, that was a new experience for me! Also, there's a creek where there is a boyscout camp, this was a good creek. Secondary points closest to the mouth of this creek. There are tons of nice drop-offs and sheer walls that can be fished with deep running cranks run parallel to the wall. Look for chunk rock and fish those with with plasctics as well. There are numerous humps in this lake that are well marked (novel concept)with buoys. There are also some points that run way out so give them a wide berth. Both Degray and Quachita are gin clear, so the fish can be really spooky. Also, ALWAYS try some watermelon colored senkos along the walls. Just let the bait flutter to 25-30 ft or so. Hope this helps! Good luck! Good Fishin'! One more thing, the shoreline between the boat ramp at the state park and the dam has tons of timber along the banks. This entire bank should be flipped as well as sqarebilled (if that's a word..)

We’ve taken a fall fishing trip to DeGray the last three years. Beautiful lake indeed, but have never had success with bass fishing. This year, we hired a guide and thought that would be the ticket. There were three of us plus the guide for 5 hours. Only two fish for the entire outing! I’ll take Broken Bow any day. Last trip there was the perfect bass trifecta: LMBs, smallies, and Kentucky spots.
