Has anyone had success with one of these? I broke off a good chunk of my skeg last week and need a replacement. I'll probably get it welded up someday, but I need a temp fix.

you talking about a skeg gaurd?

they slow ya down.. the sst ones crack, and if you hit anything else hard with one it will break the skeg all the way off at the bullet.. then you gotta buy a new housing.

other than that...they are shiny and look kewl.

seriously, they are a decent temperary fix.

spend 150.00 and have B&B Prop in Hurst weld on a new one before you do further damage with one of those.

My two cents. Make them save as much of your old skeg and cut a piece to make up the difference.
I don't like the idea of a weld made at the lower housing.

B&B does a good job and can usually get you in and out in a day or two. They did one for me and it looked like a new motor when they were done.

I hit something solid while running shallow along the Bolivar beach front several years ago and it ripped the skeg completely off my Johnson 140. I bought a Skeggard to try to repair it, but there wasn't enough skeg left to bolt it on. Ended up having Stracks Marine repair the skeg and it came out looking like new. I put the Skeggard on it and have been running that way ever since.

Thanks everyone for your input. I do want to get it welded up but don't have the time right now to take it somewhere and drop it off for several days. I'll probably just use it as is for now. Thanks again.
