Hi Hendo,

I have a Scorpion 1000 on a GLoomis IMX CR721 and it is one of my favorite light rigs. I currently have the Scorpion spooled with 8lb. Yozuri Hybrid and it will cast the lightest (well, not 1/32oz. crappie jigs ;-) of lures. I have virtually stopped using my spinning rig for anything over 1/16 oz. IMHO, one of the best deals out there on a low profile baitcaster.

Hendo: Can't personally speak for the Scorpion, but the guy I fish tourneys with has bought 4 and he swears their one the best reels he used. Right now he's using the Curado 100 and the Scorpion reels. I don't think your going to be disappointed in the 100, but you may want to consider upgrading your bearings.

I am stuck on shimano. I grew up using ambassador 5000/5500's, but once I got a curado, that was ALL OVER. Now it's only curados, calcuttas, corsairs and targas for me. I have a few curado 200's, but I can't throw the real light stuff as well as I'd like, which is why I thought I'd try the 100. I have only seen that red scorpion on ebay from japan. Is there anywhere else you can get itwithout ordering it from japan?

As BigJoe8565 said, they are my favorite reels. I have several Curado 101's, and now have 3 scorpion 1001's (Left-handed). THey are definately an awesome reel, and are constructed better than the Curado 100. The only drawback I see is that I would not use them to fish a Carolina Rig because you will de-spool the reel on the cast. I use mine for presentations like Deadsticking Senkos, wacky worms, and flipping structore. When flipping, you can flip your bait farther than a curado 101. I am probably going to upgrade the bearings to either ABEC7's or ceramics here in the near future. You don't have to, but I am just curious as to how much better it will make the reels. Oh, almost forgot....one other thing you may not like is that the Scorpions have a smaller handle than the CUrado's. I believe this is because people in Japan have smaller hands than us in the US. YOu can get however, a standard handle for these reels from www.japantackle.com for about $25. I have not changed the handles on mine yet, and to be honest with you, it really doesn't bother me that much.

Hendo, you didn't say whether or not your Curado is a SuperFree. The Scorpion 1000/1001 comes with a wiffle SF spool. As Bassmaster150 said, the handle is slightly smaller, but I haven't changed mine out and it is not a problem (and I have big hands).

It seems Shimano goes all-out for the Japanese market and "slights" the USA market just a little. The Scorpion 1000 compared to the US Curado 100 is a good example of this.

Also, the Scorpion rivals the Daiwa Pixy as a finesse baitcaster for lures in the 1/8oz. and under range (for $200 less money). Honestly, my Scopion/CR721 rig is usually the first thing I pick up when I get out on the water (and usually I have a Storm 2" 1/4oz. soft jerk bait tied on ;-) It just feels soooooo goooood to fish with.

You can get the larger handle for less than $10 at Academy.
The scorpion is a great reel.

You can get larger handles, but the scorpion used a different style of connector to connect the handle to the reel. Therefore, it will not use a standard handle from Academy as far as I can tell.

The longer handle that you need is the Chronarch SF handle. You can get them from Connie at http://lakeforktacklerepair.com

Hendo go to yahoo and type in Armadillo reel repair. Joe is located at lake Fork here in Texas and he has the Scorpions.
