Any fishing reports down there? Never been but heard its pretty good surf fishing. I'm used to fishing the flats at Rockport. Never tried surf fishing. Heading down this Friday for the weekend... Any tips, locations or any other info would be appreciated. We are also supposed to be going to the Galveston Party Boats and doing the 12 hour trip on saturday. Don't know if they are any good or not but I didn't see too many other places for deep sea fishing unless you want one charter with a few friends and that get spensive. I see there are thunderstorms forecasted for this weekend too... Not sure if they will take their boat out with chances of thunderstorms. Anyways, sorry I started to ramble...we are pumped!

Surf can be good , try surf at end of sea wall if its not to rough and dirty water . Also drive west off sea wall to first beach access and set up directly on the beach . If their is no bait in the surf you might want to try the bay . Best place is quite a drive 22 miles or so to point west subdivision , look to right and you will see concret roads within 100 feet of the bay , wade out there . I suggest live shrimp , free line and poping cork , here first gut is about 200 yards out . Another thing if water is rough , reds might be running at SanLouis pass located near Point West subdivision , access is a little tricky . Go west at sea wall (same as all other spots ) just past a huge blue water tower on your right , look for a asfault gravel road ON YOUR LEFT IT ( Y'S ) OFF THE HIGHWAY , follow it to the beach , be carefull of soft sand , but usually its good to the beach . Turn right , Stay near water and you can drive right to the bridge ( 1000 yards not far ) this area is good for reds , trout , flounder . The surf for trout , the bridge area is a place reds spawn , and flounder congreate . Distance from galveston about 27 miles , but worth the drive for diversity of fishing , surf , bridge and back of bridge is west bay flats , and you can drive to each area and park next to the water .

thanks yall... yea I read that report earlier today. Never fished from the surf or from the jetty. We've always fished down at Rockport in the flats so this is all kinda new. I'm not even sure how to fish the jetty... Don't you get hung up all the time or am I way wrong? How deep is it or how deep is everyone fishing out on the jettys? Also, from the beach... are people walking out to the 2nd sandbar and then casting or just casting from the beach itself??? I'm telling you I'm a rookie bigtime at this. I wouldn't think it would be very deep at all out there kinda like at Port A.

If the tide is going out I'll usually walk out to the first gut and cast from there.I'll then reel in a bit and let it fall into the next gut. That way it's not sitting on the sandbar.I also do a lot of fishing from the jetty's off the seawall. When I'm reeling in(without a fish)Ill start to reel faster and pull my rod up to avoid getting stuck in the rocks.Works most of the time, but not all the time.On a good day I might lose my tackle once. I was down there this past Monday. Caught a small Red some sand trout pompino a bunch of croaker and some whiting.I got there after 2 and some guys were just leaving with a cooler full of reds and golden croker. It's best to get there in the morning.Fish like breakfast,I don't think they're into a late lunch. If I didn't have this thing called work,I would always go in the morning.

(copy and posted the response to you I put in the OT)
Just got back from Gal and the reds are on. When I first got there is was blue/green water all the way to the beach and I could see my feet wading in 5ft of water...the fishing sucked that day. Next 6 days the water turned dirty (which I like) and the reds and specks came in. Best time is dawn and dusk but I caught a bunch of slot reds during the middle of the day during the tide change also. Get yourself a cast net, find the finger mullet (3"-6"), get a double drop leader, couple circle hooks, and add a spider weight to the bottom of it. Walk out to calf deep water and cast it out (the bait will end up on the edge of the gut), cast out, walk rod back, insert rod into rod holder, crack open a cold one, and wait. It should be fairly easy to limit out on slot reds within 45 min-1.5 hrs. (3 redfish daily 20"-28") If you catch a speck on your rig grab your trout (bass) rods and wade out with a 2"-3" pearl white gulp shrimp on a lead jig headed hook and wear them out. If you need any help just let me know. (oh and ps, walmart there has the double drop leaders for $.96...get a few). I came home with 6 bags of redfish mixed in with a few whiting and specks from that trip. Post a report when u get back. Fish on brotha...

Hey Striker,
I'm planning on heading down to Galveston this weekend as well, and I'm not familiar with the area either. I was curious of the general location on Galveston you were fishing if you don't mind me asking. East or West?
Great tips by the way. I'll be using some of them.

Great tips by the way. I'll be using some of them. West end of the island. Just find yourself a beach access point and pull in there and start fishin'...the reds should be all up and down the beach.

Went down yesterday in the afternoon. The water was green to the beach.Looked like a great day for fishing.Using fresh dead shrimp, all i could hook up with were some croker.I started out next to the 91st pier. It's now open so that spot is going to be a bit tricky as I found out yesterday.Casting out from the bank I got snaged on someones line fishing from the pier.I let him reel in and after he untangled my line from his I saw him pull in a nice red.Went from there and tried the jettys along the seawall and saw some reds band smacks being caught, but for me not even a nibble. It was good to be fishing but would have also liked to be catching.I'm blaming it on the full moon.
