I bought the mitten style that fold back so your finger tips are exposed. The thumb has a hole to stick your finger thru also. I used them all last winter, and they worked great. They will keep your hands warm and when you need to bait or tie a knot, just fold the top part back. I got them from the fly shop in bass pro for about $30.
I also have the pair the Chikenfrie posted. I use those when I throw the cast net, but I don't like them for fishing.

I don't use gloves in the winter unless I'm driving. I just keep my hands in my pocket with hand warmers. Don't like the feel of the rods or reels with gloves one.
The ones I use for driving is thin mainly to knock the wind. Not sure what they are called (maybe fanny pack). Goes around you waist and you put your hands in it. That's what I want.

No gloves. Too much trouble. I do keep hot hands hand warmers in my jacket pockets though.

I tried gloves in winter but gloves and fishing weren't meant to be... They get pretty nasty. Better off with hand warmers

Good pockets are better for me than gloves. BUT I do keep a pair of CHEAP loose knit wool gloves in my pockets. I cut off the right thumb and pointer finger.
Wool is the perfect material for winter gloves. Wool does not absorb water. If the gloves get wet, wring them out, and wave them in the air until dry. IMO there are no magic gloves out there that will keep your hands perfectly comfortable when it is well below freezing without being bulky and in the way. It is just a matter of making it tolerable.

A good towel to dry hands and coat pockets work for me. I don't even wear gloves when it's cold to do my job.
