I am wanting suggestions on how to un-twist the line on my spinning reel. I think I loaded it wrong now the line gets twisted up around the tip anytime there's slack. I normally load it correctly but every now and again I mess it up. The only remedy I know is to strip the line off and start over. But I hate to waste brand new line. Any tricks on how to un-twist it while still on the reel?

If you can get on a boat, cast out the line and troll out till almost all the line is out and then reel it back in. Use a lure with some resistance, like a large spinner bait, so your line will re-spool tightly. I know you don't want to waste line but I would suggest PowerPro braid. I use it on my spinning reel and have said goodbye to line twist forever.
God Bless, Stephen

The number one suggestion I can offer is to close the bail by hand after each cast. When you turn the handle to close the bail, it puts a twist in the line. Do this all day and you have added quite a bit of twist. Also, when you close the bail, make sure there is no slack in the line before you begin the retrieve. If you are fishing the Mepps or other in-line spinners on spinning tackle, those lures have a tendency to spin before the blade begins turning and they add a lot of twist to the line. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I use a simple snap swivel O-///-O about 10 inches above the lure. I use a roostertail inline spinner very often and they twist the crud out of light line, but with the swivel above the lure the twisting line is not longer a problem. I'll take the swivel off if the lure doesn't twist the line like a crankbait or strike king spinner bait. The red bead helps keep the swivel from going through the eyes and damaging the ceramic.

The other thing that you can do, is if you have a boat, cut off the lure off and with just the line in the water drive around for like 100 yards on the way in to the boat ramp or whatever you have to put the boat in the water. Hope this helps.

Younggun has the answer...... drive around with the line (no lure) in the water bwhind the boat. Reel it back on the reel with a little tension on the line (pass it thru your hands). I would also cut off the end portion and discard if it was HEAVILLY twisted as this will weaken the line.

I just cann't see how closing the bail by hand eliminates line twist although I read about this method all the time on this forum. Is it folklore? As soon as the crank is turned, the bail snaps shut and the line pickup starts. No line is reeled in till the bail is closed(either by hand or mechanizm). I rarely close by hand and rarely get any line twist. I can see doing this to save the mechanizm but for line twist??? Anyone care to explain, thanks.

I am no expert on line twist but for years I have been closing the bail by hand and I have less line twist problems than when I closed the bail by cranking the handle. I think with self centering bails there is more often slack as the bail turns to engage and as the slack is being picked up it puts a slight twist in the line. Closing the bail manually does not move the line before the retrieve begins. I think the main benefit from manually closing the bail (for me) is that I also remove any slack from the line before I begin the retrieve. I know that with slack line the bail can throw a loop in the line that can cause problems. Again, I have no scientific proof, but I know what my experience has been using the above suggestions. To be totally honest, I have had almost zero line twist since changing to a Daiwa Regal Z reel with "Twistbuster". I sure don't know how that feature helps but my Regal Z has very seldom had line twist or knot problems and all the other spinning reels I own continue to have their share of problems even when I follow my own advice!
Spinning reels have their inherent quirks but I still love to fish with them.

to answer your question the easy way. boil a pot of water on the stove. take the spool off of the reel with the line on and dunk it in the boiling water for 5 seconds. its does not hurt the line or the spool and removes all line twist. do this after you spool line on the reel and it doesn't matter how you put it on.

What is the peoper way to load the line?
Recently I became wary of a new brand of line (highly acclaimed) as the line twisted always. I have blamed on the new brand that I have not used before. I think the problem should be that just I really don't know a right wethod.

Spool the line on the reel Parallel to the reel... reel in a few turns and stop put slack between the spool and the reel, if the line twists up turn the spoon around to the opposite side ......... the line will then go on the reel exactly like it is wound onto the plastic line spool. .... easy.
