Now my tilt and trim went out... It was always real slow and kind of sluggish, but just now, about half way down it just quit, and when you try to move it or down, it just clicks both ways. I can hear the motor or whatever that is clicking but the battery is strong... The engine still cranks strong, but the trim just clicks both ways...Now the motors stuck half way down..Any ideas????

I guess it happenes at any switch you use? I know on mine there are two silenoids on the motor that can go out. If you have trouble with the motor going down but not up switch the wires and see if it changes.

Well, I think I figured it out... We tapped on that tilt&trim motor and it started workin again, and if I wiggle it around it works pretty good, but I think somethings going out in there. Trim up works a lot better than trimmin down...Down sounds bad and is really slow

The valves in your t&t unit are sticking. Same thing happened to mine. Took just the trim unit itself to a boat repair man, and it cost me $20 to get it fixed. If your mechanically inclined, you may want to buy a $30 manual for your motor and it'll have the info to fix it in there.

might need to check that fluid level in the resevoir. its a big screw on the hydraulic cylinder and fluid needs to be up to the hole when you take the screw out.

Exactly what Rutster said.... I had the same problem a few years ago. Ended up I had a gasket leaking fluid when I was trimming out. By the time I got back to the ramp I was so low on fluid I couldnt raise the motor to pull out of the boat ramp. I had it repaired but now keep extra marine hydraulic fluid in the boat!

Marine hydraulic fluid... regular will work but pollutes the water more.

Get a funnel with a hose attached to fill.

Do you have the three ram system with a 3 wire motor? If so I just replaced my entire unit with a new style 2 wire because mine was leaking down when running. I had just put new brushes in my old trim motor and the motor worked great. If you would just pay the shipping I could send you my old one. You can call me at 405-577-2808. I would rather give it to someone who would use it than to let it rust up and go to waste.

oh yea, the same thing happened to me that your describing. My trim motor would only click untill I tapped it. After taking it apart I found all the brushes stuck out.

bassman22, You will need to either rebuild your motor or else replace with a new one. Mercury does not offer just the replacement motor for that unit, but they do have the entire trim system at a very high price. You can get aftermarket motors for a lot less depending on the unit you have.

Good Luck, Tommy Yetts

There should be a screw on the top of the reservior somewhere. With the motor trimmed down all the way (cylinder drawn all the way in) the fluid level should be full. If it is not, fill it, put the screw in & trim it up & down, check the fluid again, refill if needed, repeat until after triming it up & down the fluid level stays full. Sometimes you have to do this several times to fill the cylinder completely if your fluid level got pretty low, it takes a while to get all of the air out of the system.

Most starter/generator repair shops can rebuild the motor for you if you take it off the boat.

SAK
