This was in that same article:
This is why the concern about a potential multi-year drought in Texas is valid; an important piece of the climatological puzzle points in that direction. However, it's important to note that other factors influence the climate on a yearly or seasonal basis as well. For instance, a year with a La Nina, which can occur even during a year when the Pacific is in its overall cold phase, could lead to a year with abundant winter rain. In addition, an abundance of tropical moisture associated with an active Atlantic basin hurricane season could provide short-term drought relief.
In other words, even a multi-year drought were to occur, it would most likely be intermixed with short intervals with normal rainfall.

I guess if it keeps going, I'll just have a really low hour motor and be looking for another tin rig with a 25hp motor. I'll still find a way.
Or maybe I'll get back into drag racing bikes temporarily. I've been getting the itch to build a 65" turbo bike for the last few weeks.

a new age of tournament style fishing will arise. the jon boat trails will really increase in numbers. launching will be the main concern. Great time for me to concentrate on schooling for the next couple years. I hate not being able to fish grass. As much as I'd rather be fishing this will definitely raise my GPA!

The bad thing is the drought in the 50's was bad but now more water is used by households. In the 50's there were no irrigation systems. Now almost every new home or business has an irrigation system. So it will get pretty bad. Pray for rain, or fishing may come to a halt. Just think about what this will do to communities around lakes. What would happen to communities around Fork if the lake was closed for a year? What about Cedar Creek?

Let me ask somewhat of a dumb question, why has no one thought of building large scale desalination plants along the gulf coast and pipe the water to major cities and reduce the draw on fresh water lakes. Every ship sailing the seas has a desalination plant on board although small scale. Is it just to costly to build such a system on the coast? Just wondering...

It is too costly and too slow. Ships at sea use salt water to produce steam to run their pistons and the byproduct is fresh distilled water. They don't actually have desalination units. I don't see why pipelines or aquaducts cant be run from the mississippi and other major rivers up north. There is plenty of fresh water in the US and there is really no reason that evry major city doesn't have plenty.
Retirement best job ever.

Just wondering... more than likely too expensive, and the epa nuts would have a field day about taking sea water that the squid or fish in the ocean need to live. Personally i think its a good idea, or maybe just drill places like my property in anderson where i have an underground lake on my property, lots of water in it, officials need to start thinking for sure about not just the lost revenue from fishing, but where we are gonna get water to drink

Cost for desalination plants and pipeline from Mississippi are the drawbacks. It is costing 1.5 billion to build the pipeline to pump water from palestine to Tarrant county.

Almost all the water we drank in the desert during the war came from desalination plants the Saudi's own. The U.S. has not had to rely on getting water from the ocean; yet! It is viable, affordable, there just has not been a need. If it is profitable, some one will build it.

I was only speaking of bottled drinking water. It will cost a little more then you currently pay for drinking water from a dispenser (found at Walmart etc.) but definitely it will be affordable. This leaves the remaining water to use in your shower, toilet, and other plumbing.
We did it for years in the desert. Water will be labeled as "potable" and "non-potable". You'll have water from the desalination plant to drink, cook, and other consumable use.
We took showers and brushed our teeth with the non-potable water for years.
As I said if it becomes necessary it can be done, there has not been a need to this point. In Saudi Arabia, there is a need.
