An Outdoor Channel.com story about one of Fork's guides, Orvis endorsed guide Rob Woodruff. (RW was actually a finalist for the Orvis Guide of the Year award this summer). He slings a fly line at these fish...and does pretty well despite the supposed angling "handicap." Pretty cool way to fish for Fork's bruisers in the fall months. http://outdoorchannel.com/Fishing/News/Forks-Big-Bass-Fly-Tactics.aspx

Can't wait to see it. My son has the lake and state fly fishing record for blue catfish. I think he tied a fly that looked like stinkbait. JK

Blue cat on a fly, now that's a hoot. I hooked one on the fly at Texoma and it never gave me a chance.
Chris, I'm ready brother.

You know, I think there's something here for all anglers to consider, especially on heavily pressured lakes:
"Woodruff believes that in addition to the natural action of such materials (some of these materials will breathe, or undulate, even while lying still in the water); bass flies are something that largemouths on heavily pressured impoundments rarely, if ever, see.
That means the Quitman, TX, based fly guide is fishing rarely seen baits to heavily pressured bass, virgin offerings that are so natural looking and rarely observed that they leave a big bass more apt to strike than when the fish is seeing a red Rat-L-Trap for the 999th time."

Meaning that sometimes, I think it might be best to experiment with baits, colors that are different from what everybody else is throwing at the moment.
On Classic Patterns the other night, Timmy Horton said that when he goes to a new lake, he doesn't really try to find out what everyone says they are hitting on and what the patterns are.
Said he wants to have an open mind and find out himself what the fish will and will not do.

Mark Pack put a guy on one over 10 in a tournament a couple years ago. A fly fishing tournament.
Coincidence is His way of remaining anonymous.

As long as you watch your backcast, Fork is an amazing lake to try and land a bruiser on the fly.

An 8.45 pound blue cat on the fly? Now that would be fun!!! Might have to practice some fry-and-eat on that record fish.

Catfish are a blast on the fly. A friend and I used to fish with Rob quite a bit back in High School. He would sub from time to time in our Ag class. We went a couple times out to his Mom's pond and wore the channel cat out. He always had some great catfish flies. The infamous squirrely tuck-[censored], and the spun deer hair balls, aka (dog food emergers) LOL. Of course a brown wooley bugger was pretty rough on em too. My friend caught one that was a little over 16 lbs on a 3 wt Trident. A war would be the understatement of the day.
FUN FUN FUN!!!!!
Set the hook first, ask questions later!!!
