Do you guys think it is likely that fish that hunt by scent like catfish and bluegill will take candy from a hook?

I have lots of gummies lying around the house that are expired and i thought they might make good fishing bait because of their sweet smell and taste. If people advocate using jello as a flavor additive for catfish bait candy would work right?

Ive seen videos where people use gummy worms to catch bass, but the worms look like plastic lures when fished in the water so thats not a fair comparison. I was thinking about using gummy bears and starburst. You think i could catch channel cats on those?

Thanks

Have you caught catfish with them by just letting them sit there with zero presentation?

If so then im betting that sweet wmell brings them in. Hwever if youre fishing it like a bass lure then i cant take that advice yet. Refer to my original post on why not gummy WORMS.

And i cant waste gummy worms bc i like to eat them too much lol.

Eat the candy. Use real bait. That's my advice.

Some catfish will eat anything in their zone....I know some folks have used bar soap with the same result...but have never seen it myself....and do not want to eat that fish !

At this point, it's gonna hurt to try ??? Could lead to something...not making fun, you truly never know what they'll bite on for some reason....!

Can ya or can't ya catch cats with Kit Kat candy?

Can't say.....You can cast candy cautiously causing Kitty cat confluence.........

Confusing huh?

I've caught nice cats with a wadded up pile of deer poop before, If they can smell it and it can be digested they'll eat it....except for the Walmart merchandised prepared catfish baits. For some reason they never get a bite.

I was hunting the devils river back in 1991. i came up to a shallow inlet and i could see a couple of cats in the deepest part. i decided to throw some trail mix that i had on me in the water. they ate it all including the m & m s.

victory lies not in the prize but the struggle. I sure have been victorious alot.

Used to use a mesh bag with a can of dog food, with holes in it for chum....it really depends on location and cats....what's the harm in trying? None, that I see....north or south, cats are cats....some are just a little more picky than others....good water flow? Should be able to use almost anything to entice these guys....

To be honest, think of bluegills as "baby" carp....they have very small mouths....whatever you'd toss out to cats, fifth it...light jig with a little flash....and I do mean light...if I can catch 'em, anyone can! Self taught, and not always right....but always willing to experiment a little

Catching bluegill is far easier than catching carp for me lol.

I migt be using too big of bait but everytime i throw out bait, i end up hooking cats.

You guys are suggesting bait alont hte "salty" side. When you mention trailmix, do not forget that the m ms are mixed with nuts. So the salt is rubbed onto them.

Even chocolate has this "savory" taste to it.

When i say candy i mean just good ol fruit gummies. We shall see tho smile
