Buy a cast net, learn to throw it. I think bait traps and those type of things are a waste of time. I went this afternoon, caught 30 shad and perch in about 3 minutes today, and that was a slow day.

To be honest....it always depends on where you're castnetting... here in San Antonio? still kinda stinks, and I'm being nice....it's being overfished and netted..................

You still couldn't use the crappie you catch in a castnet. In OK it's legal to use cappie for bait but only if they're caught legally. They have to be taken by legal method and must be of legal size to keep. Who in their right mind would use a keeper crappie for bait???

If it was legal to do so, a 10" crappie would be just about perfect bait for flatheads. I wish bluegill got that big so that you could keep smaller fish off of them.
