I currently use 8# Trilene XL on my spinning reels and am thinking about changing them over to fluorocarbon. I use these to finesse fish for bass. I've heard that you should not fill the spool as full with FC. Something about the line balooning off the reel. I've also read here of some having problems with Vanish 8# breaking too easily. Anyone have any experience with FC and spinning gear? And would you use 8 or 10# test? All input would be greatly appreciated since FC doesn't come cheap.

Don't go with Vanish! BPS and P-Line fluoro. work much better!
I have a friend who is a really good fisherman. He uses spinning tackle most of the time, fishing very small plastics. He spools his spinning reel with 20# or 30# braid, then adds a 10' or so leader of fluoro. The two lines are joined using back to back uni-knots.
I've tried it and it works very well. The uni-knot made using ~ 5 turns each is small enough to come through the guides with no problems and this method eliminates a lot of the negatives usually associated with having a full spool of fluoro.
At the Rally@Texas this past May, he took big bass with a 10+; caught on his spinning rigged set up as described.

I appreciate the input C. I use a setup similiar to that on one of my sticks. I just cannot seem to get as much distance skipping lures with braid as I can with mono. I went all the way down to 10/2 Stealth and still cannot get the same performance. Guess I will spool one up normally with FC and see what happens. Thanks.

FC tends to retain memory and coil badly. If you're using heavier baits, it might not coil so badly but I know using lighter jigs, it's a screaming nightmare.

Welcome me to your nightmare redfin. Normally I use a 1/4 oz jig head, sometimes I'll drop down to 1/8 oz. Spooled up a reel last night and took it out to the lake today. It started out fine, but then it happened. Things got much better after I cut off about 10-15 yards of cobwebs!

I have 10 pound test Segaur flourocarbon on a spinning reel and it wants to straighten out instead of curling. I have to be careful when I open the bail because it wants to jump off the reel. I open the bail and hold my hand over the spool to keep the line from coming off too quickly.
Keep in mind that flourocarbon does not do well in cold weather.

Thanks ezbassin, that was good info. I did not know about the cold weather effect on FC.
