I want to start flipping and pitching with braid. I have normally used a heavy flurocarbon but braid as I cuts through that thick stuff. Do I need a leader with the braid? Wouldn't that defeat the purpose as I said braid cuts through the thick stuff?

dirty water you are fine. but clearer water i would go with a leader. some people think that a leader is a weak spot, but it is not if you connect it to your main line correctly.

One thing to take into consideration is what type of cover you will be flipping or should I say pitchin to. Braid digs into wood easily. So if youre going to be pitching predominately to wood use a leader.

If you're pitching without a leader and you don't get bit you would blame? 1. The fish either aren't there, not aggressive or they don't like the bait your throwing. 2. They can see the line and you should tie on a leader.
If you answered 1, don't use a leader. If you answered 2, use a leader.
Like most things in fishing, the biggest factor is your confidence. If you are more confident with a leader use one. Personnaly it bothers me to throw strait braid becuase I think theirs a chance it bothers fish.

I've never used a leader flipping with braid +1 +2 99.9% of the time if you are flipping, you are fishing heavy cover. The flipping bite is more of a reaction strike than a hunger strike. The bait falls down in front of their face and they bite it. They don't spend time staring at it to see if it looks like it is tied to 20# fluro or 65# Power Pro... lol

Even in clear water, I use straight braid with no leader. Fishing with friends using a fluorocarbon leader or just straight fluorocarbon, I haven't seen any difference in the number of bites. I do get more fish out of the cover, though.
