Greetings: I am a transplant from Harvey, La. and looking to get info about the fishing in the DallasFort Worth area. Most importantly at this point is protection for my boat. It doesn't fit in my garage, thus it is outside covered with a tarp. What precations should be taken when the temp dips below 32 degrees regarding lower unit etc.? Also, can some please explain the price of the licenses here. In Louisiana, all we needed was a fresh and salt water license. Reading the rules and regs, I'm seeing stuf about freshwater stamps, year round verses seasonal, etc. Thanks for any info and help you sll out there can provide.

Be Blessed;
Jason

Welcome to the forum Jason. I was born and raised in Gretna and went to West Jeff in Harvey. Been here in Texas for close to 10 years now after a 10year tour of the country and love it. I hope you find this forum as valuable as I do for info. You will also meet some great down to earth people on here also. Send me an email and I can give you some more specific info to your questions later this evening when I get home.

Welcome aboard the greatest fishing site in Texas,as far as the boat and freezing temps make sure the motor is tilted down so no water can build up around the lower unit and i also wrap mine with a blanket when it gets real cold,as far as the license, you will have to buy a resident's
license and add stamps if you plan on fishing the gulf and so on.when you go to buy your license just tell them what all you plan on fishing for and im sure they can help you out.Once again welcome to the board...

What took you so long to get out of the most CORRUPTED state in the union? I grew up in Shreveport...our family moved out in 86' (wow, thats been 20 years ago), my father hated all the crime and corruption. Yea, things are more expensive, but you get better schools, better jobs, better roads, better fishing, etc. Lets just hope we dont get TOO MANY, LOUISIANA THUGS! realmad Texas is the BEST! smile

Welcome to Texas. I'm a transplant as well. I was stationed at NAS JRB New Orleans in Belle Chasse, LA. I moved here over a year ago (just in time).

Bass fishing is alot different here. First thing to do is get a license and buy alot of crankbaits.

Welcome to the forum. Moved to Dallas in 1998 from Natchitoches Louisiana. Love the people on the forum. You'll get some great insight from the seasoned vets on here. The bass fishing in Texas is great. A little different from back home, but once you catch on ............... hang on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

until we meet again

Hey JMK,

Welcome to Texas, Just like you I'm a transplant from Louisiana too. I'm originaly from Marrero did the Marine Corps thing for 4 yrs,and ended up in Texas.

As far as protection from your lower unit if you have an outboard motor. And you fish in the winter when you get home just put your lower unit to full trim down for a couple of days and you'll be Ok. And make sure you complete your Preventative Maintenance. Drop me an e-mail maybe we can get a hook wet sometime. laugh banana

sorry to tell you, but fishing here in texas just ain't what it is in SE louisiana. from where you were at, you had so many good places to go (both salt & fresh AND brackish!) there's nothing like catching reds, specks and green trout (bass for you tx boys) at the same spot!

i hope things recover soon down there, it really is ashame what happened with the storm, i guess i should be thankful i don't live there anymore... but man that fishing was something else!

remember, if you have a water pressure gauge to drain it before it freezes and kills your gauge.

i would love to be in an oilfield canal in lafitte right now with this overcast.....

Welcome over, Breaux. I been here since '79 after being born and raised in Rayville, just east of Monroe. I love Texas. Hard to believe I have lived here longer than I have lived in La.

JMK,
Looks like the La. transplant group grows.
Luling and Hahnville High here.
Grew up fishing Lafitte and Bayou Rigolets through the Harvey cut out to Turtle Bay and Little Lake.
Shoot me an email and I'll offer what I can.
Finding this site is pretty much all you need to know really. But let me know what you're after and I'll offer any ideas I might have.

Welcome!
