I am a bank fisherman and sometimes finding a honeyhole is really hard. You cant tell whats under the water or how deep it is. With the water levels being so low I have been out scouting. I have found a few new spot but I really want to make my fishing hole the best it can be! What is the best structure to find catfish? I was thinking of adding a deep hole or trench, logs or piles of rocks. Do yall think this would up my chances?
All fishermen are liars except for you and me, and to tell you the truth, I'm not sure about you!

Get a detailed map of the lake you fish and study it. Find old stock tanks, humps, ledges, channels, levees, submerged roads that are some what accessible from the bank. Coordinate these areas with wind direction and you will notice a big difference in the size and amount of fish you catch!

I gotta get this program. when you say coordinate with wind direction, are you saying you need to fish into the wind or somethings else?

Nix, AID maps will help ya see whats going on in the water and then when you compare with yahoo, google, bing maps from the computer you can really see what is going on. IMHO the lakes & coastal will give some info but not like a hotspots or AID map will. Then you compare with the online maps and put that wind direction in your favor and you are good to go. Alot of online maps like yahoo will show you the lake at low levels. deduct what the lakelevel is from AID pool levels and there ya go.

You definitely need to look at major depth changes. Any kind of rise or drop of 3' or more in a small area is your best bet for year round fishing.

Harbor Freight Tools (HFT) has a battery powered fish finder with float. It costs around $40 or so. You can get a telescoping pole & connect to the float with transponder & check out the depth & structure below, out from the bank & as far as your pole (or wire to transponder) will go. Or if the wind is pulling it out, as far as your line to the transponder will allow.
