It sounds serious. Is it going to affect Galveston? I have a trip planned there October 7-10.

Thanks!

Until it goes away. If I am not mistaken it already is in the Galveston area. Check here to see the latest:

Not in Galveston, yet... It starts down at San Luis Pass which is about 18 miles Southwest, and goes down to Freeport.

So, it is not expected to be a problem to Galveston?

Don't hold your breath. The red tide seems to be breaking out in quite a few places.

The season for algae blooms is September thru February. That being said, its patchy and you can usually work around it. No reason to change your plans.

We have dead fish all over the beach in Surfside. Smells like Saturday night in Tijuana.

Palehorse,
Our family has a vaction planned on Surfside October 10-14. The family loves to play on the beach. If you were me, would you cancel the trip because of the Red Tide. We also were planning on doing some surf fishing. Thanks for any advice.

I'll also be on Surfside from the 7th to the 14th. I'm still going, and hoping that it's slacked off some by then. I've never experienced red tide, but from what I've read it hasn't scared me off. However, I may change my mind after being down there. I will appreciate any reports between now and then also. I'm watching the TPWL site like a hawk for any information.

redtide is bacteria in the water. it kills fish and if a person goes in. it itches like crazy. you guys can still go on ur vacations. just might drive from freeport to matagorda or galveston to fish///swim.
