Ok, heres the deal. I plan on taking my dog fishing this year with me. I just got him maybe a month ago... Red Healer mix 2years old. I got him already house trained and good on/off leash and knowing basic commands. He is great with my boys who are alomst 2. Back to it. My question for you back wood folk is can I give my dog a freshly caught fish? Have any one ever done this before and do you still. I guess my main concern is the bones. I really dont want to give him fish if it will choke him. Also, please give my directions to your SSSSSL...I promise not to tell anyone. You can trust me, I give you my "democrats " word.

My dog (healer shepard mix) will eat them dead or alive. I dug a few into my garden, and about 4 days later he pulled them out at ate them. I think the whole family was running from him for about a week because of the stench.
LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT...

I guess my main concern is the bones. I really dont want to give him fish if it will choke him. Google BARF diet (Bones And Raw Food) for dogs. That should give you good information. I fed that diet (mainly chicken necks and breast ribs) to my dogs before and they never liked fish for some reason. I tried to give the dogs crappie heads and tails many times but they preferred raw eggs and chicken bones. I reckon its all up to the dog.

my lab thinks he has to retreive my lures, every time i cast he just wants to jump in. Mine retrieves the damn fish I toss back. Fun to watch, but he stirs up the water too much. Thinks he's duck hunting chasing divers. Need to get some video next time he tags along.

My lab will play with them but not eat any. Just tosses em around or licks em and pushes em around

A friend told me he went catfishing off the bank and he had just loaded up a treble hook with stink bait, set the hook down on a rock, turned to pick up his rod to cast out,and his Lab had swallowed the treble hook.He tried to get the hook out with needle nose, but couldnt reach it.To make a long story short, after a trip to the vet. and $1400.00 later, the doc removed the hook that was embedded in his throat.Just a reminder, be careful with hooks and dogs. I dont know what I would have done in that situation, hpoe I dont ever have to find out.

I have a lab Shiner Bock and an austrailian blue heeler Zoe. Shiner wants to retrieve the lure nd Zoe will sit there. I don't take them with me fishing.
