I have an interesting question about my Minn Kota Maxxum 74 trolling motor. I noticed the other day after fishing about 6 hours that one of my batteries was discharded to 75% of capacity and the other one was still at 100% of capacity. Both batteries are the same age. Why would one not seem to discharge at all? The system is a 24V system. I would think that both of the batteries would discharge at the same rate. Is it possible that it is not hooked up correctly and only using 1 of the 2 batteries? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Yes you can run with 12v, but you will have 1/2 power. Does it seem like its 74?... tell us how you have the battery cables hooked together

Also, is this a new installation ? How old are the batteries ? How are you recharging ? How did you determine the remaining capacity ?

The batteries are both a couple of months old. I am recharging with a new $30 charger that has a setting for deep cycle and 12amps. The battery charger also will tell you the percent of charge of the battery. My son bought the charger a month ago or so and it seems to be a very fancy one.

Also, the trolling motor seems to push the boat (2003 Skeeter TZX 190) around fine.

I would switch the batteries. Battery 1 to battery 2 location and vice-versa. Charge them, fish with them and then check the amount of discharge. If the same battery is low, it appears that it is going bad. If the other battery now is the one that has been discharged more, find some one to help you check your wiring.
