Fellow flyfishers, Doe's anyone out there a have couple of leader recipes they'd be willing to share for reds & trout? I've tried a couple of store bought but they have left me disappointed. Thank you

There's a leaderCalc over on Global Flyfisher that will crank out the knotted leader recipes quite well. And I make heavy duty mono furled leaders for bass and salt water use http://www.robinsleaders.com

I make my own furled leaders out of flouro or mono, for both salt water and fresh water. my latest have been out of 8 pound flouro, but i think they are a little bit on the beefy side of things, they do however cast really well.

Ok, here is my $.02 worth. Building all my own leaders, for the salt I like fast, simple and reliable. Here is my 9.5' formula using Orvis Super Strong Mono; the same proportions can be used with abrasion resistant or fluorocarbon as well with good results.
57" - .023 (65 lb) 12" - .019 (40 lb) 11" - .015 (25 lb) 11" - .012 (18.5 lb) Tippet: 23" - 1X (13.5 lb)
In this life there is fly fishing and tying...and then there is all that other stuff in between that doesn't matter.

The only problem I've had with tying my own leaders is that the knots will pick up debris more readily than a tapered knotless leader. If you are fishing in areas without much seaweed, algae or other aquatic vegetation, that can work.
If you do tie your own, I'd suggest Orvis AR (abrasion resistant) or fluorocarbon line.
