Fished mid day to 5 with little to no luck. Wind was a challenge but found some banks with great characteristics. Had to pull the plug and leave the lake before prime time when the sun sets. Fished primarily in Johnson Branch area and caught one 1.5lb bass but hooked a bass that looked to be close to 4 before she wrapped around a branch and spit the hook. Pisssed!!! Lots of little bites on grass but no hook set. Fished with pumpkin seed and chartreuse tail lizard, texas rig. Good luck fishing

You obviously weren't fishing with the magic Ray Roberts Lure! And when you find it, let the rest of us know what it is!

Hey Joshua,

I'm new to the forum. I've had the same luck as you lately on Roberts. I fished yesterday (9/20/11) from daylight till 2p. Caught two 1-pounders with a few other bites. Caught mine on a TX rigged watermelon trick worm. Was gettin bit on brushhog but no hookset and didn't have any baby hogs. Bite slowed with worm. Last week I caught some numbers on a trap and char/white spinnerbait with brass willow-leaf blades. It was cloudy though, and I've found that makes a huge difference on Roberts for me.

I just started fishing Ray Bob this late spring. In May I thought I was a Professional!! Now I'm a humble man! I've been gettin my butt kicked week in and week out all summer! I'm hoping Fall turns the bite back on!

This lake has had trouble for the last few years. If we could get some consistent grass regrowth and possibly additional stocking, it might come back in a couple of years.

It's never lived up to it's potential, but in the last 10 years it seems when it has good milfoil and some hydrilla you can usually pull 3-5 decent fish (4-5lbers) on any given trip. Pray for more rain and moderate temps this winter.....

So what's an average day fishin "ole water wells and springs" with you Rudy? I hate being negative about ANYTHING, but RR has really not been very good in my opinion since it came up from the 18' drop we had years ago. It has it's moments if you catch it at the right time, but I don't know what to think about it. Winter fishing has always been tough, but I have a hard time catching the "good ones" like I used to do. When the lake was way down I marked a ton of structure (deep tank dams, creek bends, ditches, etc), but they are just not paying off like they used to! It's a shame because it's really a beautiful body of water, probably the prettiest in N. Texas.

I'm campin at RR all next week and gonna fish hard. Hope the cooler temps and shorter days help the bite! No rain in sight!

I've got another week off in mid-October and had planned on hitting RR again, but if this trip doesn't improve my luck I think I'm gonna take the family up to Lake Murray and fish some clear water.

If I do I'll probably hear that I missed the best week ever on RR!

Monday I'm putting in 100% effort into have a successful day, gonna hit the morning bite until noon, take a lunch break, and then be back on the water around 4pm. I will let you guys know where I caught, if any, the fish and what I caught them on. I also want to say thank you to the guys that give up some of their tactics and general locations to fellow fishermen for the benefit of others having a great time on the lake. RR has put up my father's, my brother's, and my largest bass well over 9lbs and although the fishing has been less successful the past few yrs I think with group effort more fish can be caught

Alright alright, so i put in 100% this morning but I'm not making the evening trip. The results are in from the morning and ten fish were caught from 6:45 to 9:00, bite slowed after that. Fished the left V of the lake past E Lone Oak Bridge and of the ten fish the largest one was around 2lbs, nothing worth taking a picture. Fished with white spinner bait and red and chartreuse lizards. Good luck on future fishing

Here is a 5' 14" on a square bill caught Sunday afternoon. North of Wolf 3/4 back in a creek.

That's the fish I catch when I go to Ray Roberts!!! I know him! His name is Bob and he's the last remaining bass in the lake.

Seriously, I hope some of the milfoil and maybe some hydrilla will return to the lake enough to protect the fry from the sandies and RR will come back in a few years!

Have a friend coming in town Sunday and want to do a Ray Roberts trip. Have not been there myself since Spring. Would appreciate any general advice (I know guides and pros want to protect livelihood so even general stuff still appreciated) about part of the lake that might have some grass or has been productive since weather started getting little cooler. Assuming fish are still in fairly shallow water? Shallow cranks, white spinners, blue flecks and chartruese lizzards sound reasonable? Thank you very much in advance to anyone willing to help out a little. I will gladly reply afterward with how the day goes. Take care folks and thanks again.

Just had a two day tournament on RR this past weekend. I know fish were caught on jigs but all of mine came out of the grass on frogs or buzzbaits. They are in the grass, trust me, you just have to figure out the beds that are holding fish. Hint: stay out of the backs of the creeks.
