The other day my motorguide tm just quit. I have power up to the plug and the foot pedal. I also ran a hot wire from a battery directly to the blue, red and yellow wires under the head when i took the cap off and the motor works. I thought it was the microswitch on the foot pedal so i replaced it and still nothing. I took the 3 way red toggle switch out and is there any way to test it to see if it is bad? It has 3 terminals on it. Any help would be great.

Well i got a test light out and started checking stuff. If i use a ground somewhere on the boat everything is ok i have power through all my switches and to the motor. But if i use a ground on the trolling motor like say where the wires are under the indicator cap then my ground is hot. So i guess im thinking that the ground on the motor down inside the lower unit is shorted out. Does this sound right?

I know is sounds confusing, but if you're making a circuit, the ground can show hot with a test light. Get a voltmeter, the ground comes from the battery, through the footpedal to the top of the trolling motor. Place the ground there, then start following the current from the plug all the way to the top of the trolling motor with the positive probe, check voltage at all connections, with the trolling motor plugged in and set to constant.
