This may sound crazy but I was curious if anyone has ever mounted their transducer bracket on the transom using epoxy? I am not interested in mounting shoot-thru-hull as I do not believe my hull is allowing as good of performance as transom mounting will. Why epoxy instead of screws? My boat is thirty years old - got it from my Grandfather and it has never leaked. I am competent with tools, silicone, etc but why risk a leak if it can be epoxied or glued by some other means to the exterior of the hull. who_knows

If I am crazy or just plain chicken let me know - I can handle it laugh

It might work. We use an epoxy to adhere metal brackets to plastic panels on buses. It works very well. The brackets and panel take alot vibration and abuse. This stuff works very well.

I'll get you the name of the product.

Catfishatc,

It would work but would it hold? I helped epoxy a transducer to the back of a small plastic portable boat and it worked fine for years. This was an electric only so there wasnt much force on the transducer when it was moving through the water. Now I wouldnt recommend putting it on the back of a boat that went above, say 10 mph as the force on the transducer may be enough to break the epoxy. Some possible options would be to get one of those transducer boards and use some type of adhesive to attach it to your boat and than mount the transducer to it using the regular hardware. I have also used some 3M Marine Grade VHB tape to mount transducers to boats as well and these have withstood 65 mph plus runs repeatedly (the problem is removing the transducer!).

Catfishatc, Here's a adhesive we use:
3M Automix
Fast Cure Expoxy Adhesive
Part Number 051135 08107

Good Luck!

If there is a auto body supplier in your area you might see if they have anything.
