This morning the back dock was covered in crickets! I've been tying a few here and there for a while but just use a basic hopper pattern in all black. I've seen the the cricket in the "latest fly you've been tying" thread and it looks pretty straight forward and solid but wonder if anyone has a different or varied pattern they prefer that they believe has some mojo. When I started tying I just tied a rectangle of black foam with a few legs on it and it worked pretty good but it got beat up pretty easily.

Do you have one that has a bit of pizazz to it? If so be proud and post it. As soon as I get a camera that has less than fiddy buttons on it I will as well.

there is an awesome cricket pattern in fly tier magazine, about 3-4 issues ago. easy tie, and very realistic.

Whitlock's cricket nymph. I could never get mine to look right, then again I have never seen swiss straw in any of the shops. So far, I have yet to find a good step by step online.

Troutbum, what did you use for the wingcase/buds?

Here is a pattern I stumbled across this morning looking for Black Gurgelers... It involves some specific foam cutting tools, but I don't really think they are absolutely necessary..
Foam Cricket
