I have a Piranha MAX10 portable fishfinder that I bought last year that will not turn on. I had new batteries in it and it worked . 1 week later I'm out on the lake and it did nothing. I get home , put more new batteries in it and still nothing. It's like no batteries are in it. Anybody else run into this problem? If so, what do I do to fix it? Thanks for any help.

PCpirate,
Do you have a volt meter that you could use to check the power cable with? The first thing I would check would be if there was 12 volts at the power cable connector. If there is I would suspect a problem with the PMax 10. If you dont have voltage at the power cable, I would check to see that the cable is still securely attached to the bottom of the battery box. If you have good contact there I would check for continuity from the power cable connector to the inside of the battery box. If thats good I would try a new set of batteries or retry the ones you have ensuring that they are installed per instructions.
If you dont have access to a volt meter; ensure that the batteries are installed per instructions. If that doesnt help try another set of batteries.
If none of the above helps, please contact me at the e-mail address below.

Greg, I'm going to buy a volt-meter Sat. Will try everything you suggested. From there I guess look for an e-mail from me by Sun. I bought it at BassPro Feb. of last year. Never had any problems with it, and always put new batteries in it every time used. Also removed batteries after every time used. So from that info you can see, I take care of what I have.

PCPirate,
Sounds like youve had experience in installing and removing the batteries so I would not think that is where the problem is. Take a look at the power cable connection and if you dont see anything and can part with it for a week, just go ahead and ship it to me and Ill take care of it ASAP:
Attention Greg Walters Humminbird 678 Humminbird Lane Eufaula, AL. 36027
Be sure and mark the box and letter to my attention so that I will get it and not have it go to the repair department.

Greg, I sent it just as you said to. I hope you got it and not the repair shop.

pcpirate,
I received your unit last week and the unit tested good. Unfortunately I did not have any AA batteries to try the portable box with and the lady that buys them was on vacation.
I tried a set of batteries today and think I found your problem there looks to be some corrosion on the battery board that is keeping it from making the proper connection. Ill get the battery boards replaced and try it again just to be sure than ship it back.

pcpirate,
Got you all fixed up and ready to go. I had it run through our Service Center just so there would be a record of the unit having been in and it also gives you a 90-day warranty (I think) since it is more than a year old. I spoke with the Tech that worked on your unit and she updated the unit software while it was here. Be careful when installing that battery door as it has to be in right to be water tight. It should ship out to you today.

Greg, A thousand blessings to you !! I never would have guessed a problem with that board. Also, I had no idea that the software could be up-dated. I'm still stumped how corrosion could set up. Always new batteries used and I never get the unit wet, anyway , I will be even more careful with the battery cover. You and Humminbird are #1 and will promote Humminbird to everyone I know. Thank you very very much !!!

pcpirate,
Just glad I could help although all I did was give you a little information and play the middle-man in getting your Piranha Max back in action. We normally update the software in all the units we can when they come in for servicing. The Piranha Max units can only have their software updated by disassembling it and reprogramming it on a special fixture.

Fool4fishing, I work for a company that does sell Humminbird depth sounders. I dont sell them personally I just try and help those that have a problem or question about our products. Operations manuals are available for download (free) off our web site at: http://www.humminbird.com/generic.asp?ID=411 I believe that paper copies can be purchased but you would need to contact our Customer Resource Center folks for that at 1-800-663-1468. Which model Humminbird do you have? Greg Walters at Humminbird
