I have a Texas Dept of Agriculture ornamental and turf pesticide liscence. I specialize in turf care. If it were army worms you would know it because they would be very visable and crawling everywhere. This looks like chinch bug damage. Chinch bugs are a sucking insect. Most chinch bugs are resistant to over the counter incesticides. You will need to get something they are not resistent to such as a product that has bifenthrin in it or trichlorfon. You can get these insecticides at a John Deere/Lesco store. You will need to put it out at the 1st sign of chinch bugs ususlly in June or July and a repeat application 3 weeks later. In your case the damage is already done.

Yes it can. With the cooler temps we are having the CB's will become less active. But yes, by all means treat it ASAP to stop the damage. Learn how to identify Chinch bugs as well so you will be ready for them next year.

Is there any chance he could have concrete under the spots that are turning brown. I have seen that happen.
