Just installed the unit yesterday. Does anyone have any knowledge, ideas, or comments in utilizing unit to full potential. The directions are pretty vague.

Fishing Cop,
Do you have a question about a specific function/menu?

Played with unit on the water for a little while yesterday. The system status check stated that the unit was not connected at the beginning of the day. Fished for couple of hours and got ready to move and noticed that the screen was different. GPS was working and began following the "bread crumb" trail. Got up on plane and unit displayed "no GPS" Stopped and sat awhile and unit never displayed in regards to GPS. Got dark and had to go home. It was a little overcasted and windy. When the system was working, it was pretty neat with the different views and options. I could see the benefits and potential but it stopped working. I'm very novice in reading the depth finder and GPS, so any hints or advise would be great.

Fishing Cop,
The weather should not have made a difference in whether (no pun intended) the GPS tracks the satellites or not. Sounds like you may have a loose connection somewhere. Did you use the metal retainer piece in the unit mount? This is used to hold the cable connectors in place so that when you snap the unit on, all the connections are made.
Also, what model Matrix do you have?

I checked all the fittings but will go back and check them again. I did use the metal retainer and it seemed to be in place properly. I also have the matrix 35.

Let me know if it happens again. You should be able to check the GPS while the boat is trailered (just ignore the depth readings).
