I'm developing a device that will eliminate monofilament line memory and extend the life of the fishing line on my reels. I plan on marketing this after I finish with the design.
My idea came after buying new line time after time due to it looping up after being on the reel for no longer than a week. I fish a bunch of weightless presentations and when it loops up it forms basically a "spring" that pulls the lure away from the structure after I cast.
My question is would this interest and help others tired of buying line? I did the math and I spend over $20/week on line during the fishing season, especially when tournments are in full swing. The device will be portable so it can be taken to tounaments and will double as a rod storage unit as well. Any comments?

If it's a stretching device, there may be some perceived detriment.

Many questions about the device........ how much at retail will it cost? How many fisherman actually change line WEEKLY? (not very many)..........
Personally my style of fishing (trolling and jigging) I really dont have any line issues. ????

Jig, Not a stretching device as this would compromise the line strength.
Boat, The idea is if you wanted to you could use this device during storage of your rods to keep the line from retaining memory of the spool. My example of replacing line every week is extreme and a personal preference and does not apply to everyone. Whether weekly, monthly, etc, this device would eliminate line memory during storage etc.
Have you ever noticed your line looping and twisting after it's been on the reel for an extended period of time? This is what I'm trying to eliminate. This type of memory with monofilament can mess up your presentation when fishing a weightless tube, senco, fluke, whacky worm etc. In order to correct the problem, you have to buy new line. I could see where it wouldn't be a problem with trolling or jigging.
As far as cost, I don't know yet. Very good feedback, keep it coming.

While I'm at it, if you're getting "spring action" off weightless presentations, you're using line with way too much memory especially if you change it once a week like you say. I use Trilene XL in 12 pound for weightless and have never had spring action even after leaving the line on for a month before using. Of course, I use KVD's line treatment on everything and I believe it helps.

Jig, I also use Trilene XL, but not 12 lb. I typically go with 14 to 17 lb depending on the structure I'm fishing. I've tried all of those line treatments and haven't had any luck (maybe it's user error on my part). I'm glad it's working for you.
Are you saying you don't have ANY line memory with the XL 12 lb. after a month of not using?

sounds like a good idea if you are successful, email me if everything goes as planned. Email-Acolley@madixinc.com But, for the time being i have found that Silver thread like tends to have very little memory, manage to keep the line in the water as much as possible and avoid it.

No, JT, I'm not saying I have a complete lack of memory, but a very minimal amount. If I throw a medium running crankbait about three times, any memory I do have is "stretched" out....I use the word "stretch" for lack of a better term, but the line is straightened. I've experimented with about every known line out there over the years and XL has the lowest memory for me. I see a lot of guys on here use copolymers, your invention would be great for them since that type of line has the worse memory for me.

JTMan, You might have something there. I use a lot of line in my crappie fishing. Lighter line seems to be born with twists in it. You may want to quiz some of the Crappie Guru's especially.

Silicone sprays help. I don't know what you are trying to do but I change line mostly to avoid breaking, not from loops in the line. Abrasion and weakening due to stretching are my main concerns.

Sounds like an interesting concept. But I also use Line and Lure conditioner and it almost completely eliminates coiling from memory.
Good luck with your invention.
