i have a quantum ds300x on a 6'6 medium rod. i'm wondering what would be a good all around (not too expensive) line choice to spool it with. i've done a 8lb suffix elite mono, and berkley 12lb big game before. the suffix didnt do too bad, i've just had concerns with it only being 8lb test. the berkley big game just seemed too thick and stiff (and would backlash pretty badly). my brother uses this one most of the time because i dont like dealin with backlashes all the time, so i'd like to put something on that would work well so he'll stop wasting my line cutting out backlashes.

I've never had a problem with any Sufix line, so if the Elite is working good for you, try upping line size. See if that helps! (P.S. I use 40&65lb Sufix 832 braid, 10lb Sufix Camo, 15&30lb Sufix Elite) I don't use any other line than Sufix and have never had a problem.
You know the old saying
If it floats, flys, or f___s it is always cheaper to rent!
You have to decide which is more important.

14 lb Trylene XL is the best I have used for general line, casts good and handles nice, only problem is dragging over rocks or trees it will fray some and break off easier, but just have to retie a little more often.

I like 17 lb Trilene XL Florecent Blue for my all around (bass, buffalo, carp, and little cat) rods. Invested in the 5 lb spools couple of years ago. Probably set up for life!

I like Trilene Big Game. The spools are large - up to 1500 yards and it usually runs about $7 a spool. I am a big believer in respooling often and you can buy lots of different sizes for a few bucks and can change to whatever the conditions dictate. Just must 2 cents. Fish Catching Travel

i was thinking of sticking with the suffix, just getting maybe a 10 or 12lb test spool and seeing how it worked. the big game seemed to really cut down casting distance and always felt off to me.
i still use the 8lb suffix on my spinning reel, works well, but i still feel like it's too light and worry about breaking it.

Since I re-spool and re-tie often, I'm a fan of Berkley Big Game. I usually stock up during the spring when it's on sale.

Southwest parts on mockingbird had alot of good line for sale last time I was in there. May check them out. A nice 12 or 14 is always good. Just don't try to muscle the fish in.

10lb PLine CXX is a good multi-purpose line.

Big Game! Cheap and strong, though it coils up like a watch spring sitting on your spool after about two weeks.

for low profile bait casters that will be used for casting lures i like better line like trilene stren or even suffix in 12 lb test. for my bigger round reels like garcia 6500 using weights and bottom rigs i run big game in 15lb test
