Can you guys tell me when the Big Black Drum start to roll in down around Port O Conner/Port Lavaca Area. I have leave scheduled for the second week of October. Will I miss it or do I need to recshedule for later in october/November?

i always thought it ran in april to may. That is when we always catch the big ones at the jetty's in galveston. Cracked crab and you were always on the big ones. Maybe different for that area. keeper size black drum to me taste just as good as red fish. We always call them big mooks. Alot of fun to catch.

well I got into them about 4 years ago in that area in october and there was quite a few people fishing for them. They told me it was the fall run. I have been back the last 2 years and have not caught any, I am guessing I am too early. The small ones do taste better but the big ones feel like you hooked a bulldozer on crack.

My uncle use to target Bull Reds and Big Drum. I was a kid, but from what I remember, he would always go October and November, in between deer hunting. He use to bleed them out right after catching. They always tasted good. Big steaks on the grill.
