Why is this unit only $799 at academy when everywhere it is about $1050. Is there something that I have overlooked? Link

Older unit, I think the new ones are hd or something different. But it is something you over looked.

Ya I noticed that this one doesn't say HD on it. Does it really matter though?
My original thought was that it may not have a transducer or something of that nature.

It's something else but I can't remember. Go to the general equipment section, find Doug V (he has tons of Hbird post) and ask him. He is the Hbird guru and can tell you everything it's lacking and has.

+1 grout, Doug has forgotten more about HB products than most of us will ever know

No HD on this unit. Also the 798HD CiSi had down imaging as well. Not sure if this unit has down imaging. Also, mine came preloaded with navionics maps. Still looks like a pretty good deal. The GPS on my unit is really responsive.

The only difference is with the hd unit you can hook two units together the old one you can not ,also both of them come with the same transducer the hd lies and does not have a hd tranducer so you will have to get a second one that will give you a better picture in down image it cost about 200

the only difference in the one at Academy is that one doesn't have the ethernet cable connection. you use a sd card for updates. the resolution is the same pic quality is the same all the same features and is totally upgradable just like the other units you just dont get the ethernet connection. I have a 1198hd and also have the that 798 that i bought from academy. the ethernet cable is for convenience of upgrading and networking.

I'm not sure on the convenience of upgrading with the ethernet cable. I have my units connected by ethernet to share waypoints.

when i mean convenience of up grading with ethernet vs sd card you take your sd card out of your 798 put it in your computer transfer the info to the card put the card back in your 798 and down load it. an with ethernet connection you cary your 798 in, hook the ethernet cable to your computer and transfer info straight to your 798. so I dont know if it is any more convenient but is nice to interlink or network I guess. but i like my 798 from academy and good friend also got one form there and we have had no issues and really like them.
