GRTU website would be your best bet for spot-on info on their stocking schedule etc.

Is 70 CFS enough to justify stocking the trout-fish? I'm not trying to start a range war here, just curious.

Nope. However, if they spend the money (on poundage of fish) with the outlook that "eventually it will rain," or "eventually it will get cold" then they will take those orders when they arrive (because they will arrive) and stock them. God help their little fish souls.

Keeping an eye on the level of Canyon Lake is a great predictor of what is likely to happen. It looks like it's 8' down right now. Think hurricane.

Please trust me, sir, when I say that you don't want to see the hurricane that would fix our current condition. It would be a muy malo motor scooter.

Yeah, they do have their downside, and I have been through a couple of historic ones. Who remembers Beulah?

TP&WD stocks when water temps drop enough to support trout. I'd guess around Thanksgiving. Now, with Canyon Lake in a drought condition, the flows from the dam aren't going to be conducive for decent fishing or fish survival...They need some big rains in the Guad watershed (Kerrville, etc) to bring lake levels back up so flows can be raised back to 200+CFS. A Rain Dance would definitely be in order for those interested... ;-)

Yes, TPWD purchases rainbows for stocking, and so does GRTU. This La Nina event started back last October, and I just heard a talking weatherhead say La Nina is in place again and we can expect more of the same. I hope she's wrong of course. A rain dance is a great idea, and should be part of the festivities at all DFF and FWFF meetings!

I have come across a few 80+ year-olds who say it's the "worst I've ever seen." Let's see depression, drought ... how many horsemen are there?

Back to the original question, TPWD usually stocks about every other week or so beginning at the end of the first week in December. GRTU will stock when the water temperature is consistently below 70 degrees in the Trophy Trout Zone (see their online real-time water temperature monitors at www.grtu.org) and the water quality (e.g., dissolved oxygen, hydrogen sulfide levels) are conducive to trout survival.

So Mick, without me running over to the GRTU site and doing the research, does this mean they (GRTU) will not stock in the TTZ's unless all conditions are conducive to trout survival? I assumed everyone had to purchase stock in advance.
