P Line is no good in cold weather, period. Do a search and you will see you are not alone.

P Line also is overly prone to break at the knot if you do not know how to 'loop' it when cinching it down.

Learn to tie it right and don't use it till the water temp is above 60!

I have not found a "flouro" anything that is reliable, and I have tried most of them. They just seem hit or miss, depending on the day. I use P-Line CXX only, but have learned to use lighter lines than I used to in the past.

I have to admit even though I use all Pline the CX failed me on the back end of my C rig 3 times in one day. I have moved back to all CXX but have found that if you dont tie your knot correctly you will break it off at the knot.

I too am a P-line fan. But I did have problems with break-offs on hook sets recently. I got a new batch and the problem stopped. I guess it was just too old.

I love P-line Premium. I could go on and on with stories about how great it is. I have caught a 32lb drum on 10lb on a spinnerbait. I fish docks at Cedar Creek sometimes with spinning gear and 8lb. I have a great deal of confedence in P-line. I also have some stories of break-offs, that's fishing. I have tried all the major brands and have had break-offs or something else I didn't like.

P-Line CXX is as strong as it gets and I love it. I use the 15lb line and I feel it is as strong or stronger than most other 20lb lines. I also have use 20# and 10# Floroclear and don't like it. I have snapped my line on the hookset with both of these lines and have since chunked them both.

God Bless,
Stephen

I posted a similar post a couple of months ago. I had great success with Pline Premium over the years and lost only a fish or two. However, this years shipment must have be bad ( I buy in bulk) and had many breakoffs. One tourney in November I broke at least 8 fish off, many on a new tie. Tried different knots and line would still break, sometimes at the knot sometimes higher up. Since then, I have been trying different brands!

Every time a new line comes to market - I try it. AND almost everytime I end up pulling it all off and going back to Big Game. That's 40 years of experience - draw your own conclusion.

Here's my experience, whatever it's worth.

1. I used to use Big Game for everything.
2. I went through a phase of trying out new stuff, i.e. Power Pro, P-Line CXX and Premium, and Suffix Elite and Seige.
a. Braid is just not for me. Many fish lost on the strike and while fighting. It is also irritating coming through the guides, and it floats too well.
b. P-Line Premium behaves similarly to Trilene Sensation. Both are great lines for spinning gear and for those who like ultra limp lines. Overall, both stretch too much and don't suit my fishing style as well as some of the others.
c. I either really liked P-Line CXX, or I hated it. It has the least stretch of any mono I've used, providing unmatched sensitivity. It is very strong as far as ultimate break strength. It is also very smooth (easy to tie). It's downsides are quite large, however. It's ability to coil goes completely unmatched. Nothing is like it except bailing wire. It's the most difficult mono to manage on the reel and will drive you crazy. Never use it as a Carolina leader either. It will loop knot on you when cast through the air. On a weightless rig, this coiling severely hinders performance and negates the low stretch advantage. On a jig 'n pig, its not a problem and is the one rod that it was made for. I was a little unimpressed with its abrasion resistance though. Stumps and weeds will chafe it up easier than you would think for a line like this. Being a copolymer, once cut, it is severely weakened. The low stretch also doesn't make it as shock resistant as other lines, but that is to be completely expected (physics is physics). They make up for it by making the line thicker, which can be viewed as a disadvantage as well. All in all, a good line, if you don't mind the never ending line management issues. However, I have broken one fish off on a hookset. The line was chafed by weeds about six inches above the knot (note: I've never broken off on a Big Game hook set, and I've used it by far more than any other. In fact, it is rare I ever break off on Big Game period).
d. I'll keep this one short, Suffix stinks, both Elite and Seige. They both seem real supple and smooth when first put on, but they quickly develop memory that isn't bad, just more than everyone raves about. They both chafe if you breathe on them or look at them sternly. It's pathetic. Furthermore, I've had rubber bands stretch less than Elite, and Seige isn't much better. These lines will make a G-Loomis GLX feel like a Snoopy rod in sensitivity due to line stretch.
3. After toying around for about a year, when I put Big Game back on everything, it sure felt good. Extreme abrasion resistance, fairly low stretch, super slick, and small diameter are welcome friends. Oh, and the fact that you can get it anywhere, and it's reasonably priced.

love the cxx 8lb line works great for me hi/vis low memory, no problems at all.. Is it possible you got some old line that had been on the shelf to long...old line leaves powder on your hand when you spool it an when you tie a over hand not to check for streght it will pass, but after it gets wet for awhile it alot weaker..

I love the feel of P-line but I have had problems as well. I've switched back to regular Trilene XL.

P-Line CX has been great to me (if that's the one that is Fluorocarbon coated). Casts well, so strong you can't hardly break off sometimes if you wanted to. Hey Medicine Man, I too am down in houston. Whereabouts do you fish? I've got some ponds I fish that I wouldn't mind swapping the details with you
