Yesterday, I was fishing on a local pond here in Houston. The fish are already starting to get really active and move into the shallows with all of this warm weather. In fact, some are already picking out beds, it seems. I have been able to locate the same fish in the same spot several days apart.
Anyway, I was sight fishing, due to the fish being shallow and the water being gin clear, and I located a small bass sitting on a gravel circle in the middle of the grass. I put a stand up jighead with a curly tailed grub right smack on his nose, and he slurped it up. On the hookset, before the rod even got close to max bend, the P-Line Fluroclear snapped. Not the knot, the line above the knot. I had just that same afternoon put the 15lb Fluoroclear on the reel from a brand new spool that afternoon. The fish wasn't even over 2 lbs. I know because 2 minutes later I came back and caught the same fish. Same line, same knot, same bait. Good hookset, line held, and he was on the bank in less than 30 seconds. I was really puzzled, though, because I have heard such good things about Fluroclear and have had no problems with it after using for a couple of months.
Anybody have similar problems with Fluroclear breaking off at the hookset?

Yes, 12lb line used as a leader on a c-rig with braid as the main line. I went through a half dozen leader snaps before I chunked that stuff in the rod box. I've never been to fond of P-Line, some poeple love it and some poeple hate it...

Same experience here as well. Got another spool and it was real good. Quality issues maybe?

I use premium cx and floroclear on all my reels. IMHO it's excellent. Now I have lost an occassional fish do to a probable nick or fray in the line. But that's fishing. I've lost count of the many 5+# fish using 8,10,and 12# p-line.

Way too much memory for me. I fished it long enough to run thru the spool on 15lb green. Never again!

I lost two good jig fish on Grand Lake during Everstart due to P Line getting brittle in cold weather. Don't know what the temp was, but after that, I picked up a rod with 4 month old Big Game on it, placed in the tournament, took a check, and have NEVER even considered buying P Line again.

P-Line is #1 in my book. I've been using it for about 5 years now. Some of you try it, get frustrated about some of the characteristics of the particular line that you're using and then you assume that all P-Line is the same. There's only about 6 or 7 different types of P-Line and each has a specific use. Here are the different types:
Original CX CXX Xtra Strong Flouroclear Flouroice Pure Flourocarbon Flourcarbon leader Spectra IV

yes if you're reffering to the flouroclear in the black box ditto Okie Poke way to much memory and no where near the performance of the premium or the pure fluorocarbon.JMTC

i have been using P-Line CX for 6 years now and love it. i was really sold when fishing with Texoma smallmouth guide Mike Woody and hooked into a big striper(on accident ) that ran under a marina. not a couple of docks, talkin about rows of huge boat slips. 8# test wrapped through who knows how many poles i was able to land it with the fine drag of a stradic. 14.9lbs. <")>>><

I probably shouldn't hijack this post but can any of you who use P-line tell me any significant difference between CX Premimum which is flourocarbon coated and Flouroclear which is also flourocarbon coated? I too have expereinced a few breakoffs with the flouraclear but not with the CX premium which I now use for almost everything as I consider it a very good line for the money. What's the fifferenc betweent the two?

I always tie a well lubed palomar knot with zero problems regarding knot failures. I'm exposing myself to ridicule for saying this, but this my take on the cx vs. floroclear difference. Premium cx is slightly thinner, softer and fluorescent. Floroclear is a little more like cxx in that it a little bit more tougher around cover. That's been my experience.
