So me and my uncle have been fishing together a lot lately and his century old rod snapped in half on one of our trips. Snapped at the handle and before we realized what had happened it sunk to the bottom of the lake.
After his mourning period he decided to go on a search for a new setup. Me knowing him pretty well, knew he was never going to buy anything decent. He picked himself up a new rod yesterday afternoon and he asked me what and where the new cabelas was so after the rod purchase we took a drive over there.
Walked straight up to the reel section and discussed with the rep there what reel would be best (baitcaster) and the rep handed him a brand new to the market white shimano reel with a $200 price tag. He was shocked at the price (being as conservative as he is) and the rep showed him the curado and explained the fact they were selling like crazy. He tried it out and to my surprise he said "done deal" on the second last curado 200e7 and I was like "I am dieing with envy!!!" and the rep spooled up some free line. The rep said this is the second last one I have and will get before shimano send the new model and I read about the new model having some changes and people saying its perfect why change?
So I am dieing inside with jealousy, envy and also happiness for him and see some guys walk behind me and look right at the last one so I picked it up right quick and said "done deal as well"
$119 for the reel with a $25 discount signing up for the cabelas card. Heck of a deal.
Went fishing last night with our new rods and reels (mine a berkley lightning storm rod) and we had a blast I caught my personal best large mouth after randomly deciding to cast out a deep diving rapala shad at mid night.
I know this is a long read but I love this reel so much it performed great but I need to work out how to perfect it because the bird nests are still occurring. This reel, like my abu c3 6500 will eventually be passed down to my kids or grand children.
Fishing is expensive at times but it brings great memories!

is that rod just called lightning rod? if so i have 8 of 'em. very light. fish all day no fatigue. heavy crankbaits don't work so well, but that is a fantastic rod for everything else.

Make sure at least three of the brakes(hats) are out until you get use to it.
