Am I just being "scroogish" or are shipping costs getting way out of line??

Example: Wanted to order a spool of line from Bass Pro for $29.95. Looked up shipping cost and found it to be $8.50 or 28% of the order total. Highway robbery!!.

And don't say, just order more because I didn't want anything else so why spend more $$.

Shipping prices have gone up because gas prices are out of control.

How much would you have spent in gas getting there and back?

I agree. That's why I figure out all the stuff I need (want) and order from Tackle Warehouse when it amounts to $50 and get the free shipping. You can also order stuff that your buddies want, to get it over the $50. Also, I note that the 25# XPS from Bass Pro is $24.95 + shipping, and is only 150 yards, so it comes to .23 per yard. But if you get the Seaguar InvizX from Tackleware house it costs $29.95, but you get 200 yards, and it would cost .15 per yard.

Shipping in general have gone up a bunch. UPS and Fed Ex are making a MINT!

I was gonna order some stuff from Cabelas online but when I got to online check-out the shipping was so high I said screw it, I'll wait till I'm close to their store...I dont recall exact numbers but I was gonna order around $ 50 and after shipping & tax it was almost 70.

Ordered some Talley scope rings for my CZ .22 from Natchez Shooting Supply as they were on 'SALE' from $70.99 to $51.99

AFter grinding through two pages of on-line ordering paperwork, the final invoice showed shipping & handling charges of $14.50!!! flame

How can TW and some other retailers offer free shipping for orders over $50 - especially when some of those orders end up being really heavy, etx... and yet, BPS can't do the same, and even worse, charges ridiculous prices for shipping for really light items/small orders?

The "handling" part is where a lot of folks are making their extra $$$...

I look at eBay a lot and there is a wide range of shipping/handling fees.

When you compare shipping and handling though on Cabelas and Bass pro we are also paying sales tax at 8%. Now when you combine tax and shipping I have a hard time shopping in Texas as compared to online retailers who do not have to add tax and offer free shipping.

Here's a little tip that sometimes works for me... I put everything in the cart and if I don't get free shipping I see if the company has online chat. Once the employee rep comes on to chat I ask if they have any coupon codes for free or reduced shipping. It's worked twice for me at Cabelas.com. I order a couple of 200e7's each time they reduce the price and shipping is 18 bucks. Both times I've placed an order I've been able to get either 5 dollar shipping or a 20 dollar credit... Both of which brought the shipping fees to a realistic level.

Gas prices have gone crazy, and shipping obviously will follow as gas is their #1 expense. You're certainly going to pay for it to click a few buttons and have someone burn $3.50 per gallon gas to drive it to your door.

I have no idea how TW makes money on those $50 with a few heavy items.
