There is a new company out there that makes a tool that will straighten a trolling motor shaft on the boat right at your fishing spot. I found them and bought one. It works as advertised. Straighteneze.com.

Just fixed mine I bent it pretty good. I disassembled everything and put one end (the bent shaft) on a small lip in my garage towel under each end and my neighbor stood on it a little at a time and voila its as good as new!! You need to get it off the floor a ways so you can put some bend into it without hitting the floor. Good luck!!

Doubt the minn koat would have held up in this scenario but I will keep this in mind. I have literally hit stumps so hard the trolling motor prop scratched the boat. I have never had a motorguide last longer than a day without a bent shaft. I have always been hard on my stuff and will always run minnkota. but as far a straightening the shaft there is a new tool out for that. seems to be pretty commmon problem with the motorguides.

I have straightened many motor guide shafts. I use the tongue of the trailer. Slide the motor end between two of the beams on the trailer and put pressure on the shaft at the head end. If done right, you can get out most of the bend and even get it very close to straight. This method has saved many a fishing trip for me.

I have replaced 4 shafts myself. It's not a hard job, just takes some time. I'm curious about those that have straighted their shafts, because the stainless shafts do not bend easily. If you call Boris Marine or All Star, they will tell you to replace it.
