I just got a 6'8" Ethos spinning rod, now I need a good spinning reel for this rod.

I dont fish with spinners too much, but would like to learn. What is a relatively inexpensive reel to grab that will be easy to learn with?

Can I get a reel that will work for bass and crappie?

Thanks

Thanks, bcat!

What line would you suggest putting on this real? What style of bass fishing is most conducive to this setup?

Can't go wrong with a Shimano Spirex or Symetre.

Shimano Sienna is in the same price range as the Pflueger and a better reel IMO

Hi! UTPATS
I myself don't fish for bass allot, but when I do, I use a spinning rod for bass in the fall, especially during the month of October, bass attend to school allot in open water chasing shad, bream; and minnows. I just tie on a chrome spoon or rattle trap. As for the line goes, my preference is Berkly XL 10Ib - 12Ib test. As for crappie goes same line but in 6Ib - 10Ib test. I agree with the other posts, Shimano reels I would highly recommend as well for quality, and you can get parts for it.

When you go shopping for a spinning reel, look and see if the particular reel you are looking at comes with a spare spool as well. Look for mechanical quality, and importantly see if it has a smooth drag system.

Keep us posted on what you decide to get. thumb

I am a baitcasting guy but I know a lot of people like using the spinning reel for bass. I would probably use it for crappie more than bass, so maybe a 10lb test so I can use it for either. Mono or Flouro?

Why teach him to fish with mediocre to a poor reel. Nothing will turn a guy interested in fishing with a spinning reel than to put him on a peice of junk to where he will just throw it down with all the line twist and poor performance.

A Shimano Sedona can be had for about 50 bucks and it carries a lot of the features that a more expensive reel will have. The best reelf or the Money is a Sahara and I would recomend a 2500 for that. Excellent Reel. I use them myself in both fresh and salt water. Some I have are over 10 years old and one 4000 is about 13 years old and has been in Saltwater it's hole life and still going strong.

IN the 2500 size used 6-8 pound test. I use 8# and then 20# Power Pro for braid on extra spools. I use Trilene XL or Suffix Seige on my Spinners.

I have a few spinning reels.

I have a Cabelas Pro Guide and a BPS Micro Lite.

I also have 2 others, that are cheapies. I fish alot of the ponds and streams with them.

I want to set one up with some braid, and a fluro / mono leader

They also make a bubble for the spinning gear, to allow the use of flies.

Went to academy tonight and looked at the different options. I felt that the Sedona 4000 was my favorite, but I like the Okuma as well. The Okuma was on sale for $49 and the Sedona was $59. Decided to wait and see if the Shimano Sedona goes on sale within the next few weeks.

Sedona is Shimano. Not likely to go on sale. Dealer Cost is around $48.00.

Nothing really wrong with Okuma though but the Sedona is widely poplular and an excellent buy like I said above at 50's for a price.

$10 difference over the life of a reel is peanuts.
