So is changing the water pump a DIY job or is it recommended to take it into the boat shop? I have a 300 hp Yamaha, and wondering if I should give it a try or seek professionals to do it.

Who has done it and would you recommend taking it in, what obstacles or lessons learned did you get from doing it yourself?

i have a 200 yammy and everyone is telling me that its a piece of cake to change the water pump on. i've never done one on a motor this big though. not sure where to disconnect the shift linkage. if i can find that out, it should be easy.

I did mine on my 150 Merc. It was a easy job. Do it yourself and save some $$$. This was the first time i ever did it.

What's that 300 hp Yamaha worth? Think about it.

Fairly easy job. Takes about a hour for a first timer.

I agree. I do almost everything myself. Brake pads, changed transmissions out. Built rooms on houses, plumbing etc. On something like this, although not that hard a job at all, considering how important the cooling of your 300 hp. high dollar engine is I wouldn't touch it.

I noticed in my Yamaha manuals that it is suggested to let the dealer handle this and that they did not even include instructions for it, so now I have to see if I can find something out on the internet. I have had lots of people tell me it is not that hard of a job, so I am just doing some researching to see if it is feasible to save some coin.

Post your question on the motor repair forums on www.iboats.com. Someone will be along and tell you how to disconnect the shift shaft.

Put the plug in.
