I am considering changing out the stock muffler on my 2002 F150 5.4L Ford with a Flowmaster. It is currently a single exhaust setup. The exhaust headers have a catalytic converter in each leg and then it "y's" into one 2.5 " pipe going into a massive muffler. Then of course the tailpipe from the back of the muffler up over the axle and out by the back bumper. If I simply changed out the muffler with a more flow through type design, like a flowmaster or turbo, would I just get a nicer rumble or would I also get a little more HP? Thanks in advance for any replies. Bob

David is right, you will get both. I would suggest, however, that if you go with the flow master get the Delta Flow. Same price, performance and sound with less resonance inside the vehicle. Just had mine done about a month ago and noticed a distinct improvement in performance and fuel economy. (Also changed the air filter out and installed a high flow system).

Bob, if you have the dual cats, then I think they make a dual exhaust set up if you'd rather go that way. If you stick with the single, look & see if they don't increase the diameter of the tail pipe. I had one on my 90 GMC suburban a few years back. The other advantage I saw was that the motor ran a little cooler. Didn't hug the 210 mark on the gauge like it did before while towing. It was a little noisier in the cab, especially around 50-55 mph. I've been putting off getting one on my Yukon, but it's knocking on 80K miles now. I'll be replacing it hopefully before the end of the year and will probably go back to Flowmaster then. ------------------ [This message has been edited by TX Champ (edited 06-04-2003).]

What makes the flowmaster and others work so well is they let the motor breath easier. Alos look at a K&N air filter. Better air in and out. Your truck will thank you. I just wish the cat. convertors would go away. I HATE THOSE THINGS. Take them off and even more power. But they would not pass inspection then. ------------------ David
