Is Fireline as good as everyone makes it out to be? I've never used it. I Just wanted to read your opinions before I replaced all my reels with it.

No Not for us. It frayed and lost the color in a few days. The fraying was the worst though. Try Stren Superbraid or Sunline. We have great results with both. Both are available here at a discount to all members here.

I've used it for years & thought it was great. Seems much stronger than the listed line strength. But like anything it has it's +-'s...
I only use the smoke color - Last year they improved it dramatically! It holds it's color far longer & almost no fraying.

Only buy the boxes w/ the Oval Sticker on the front.
All the other's are the old stock. Also, if you notice, Berkley has updated their logo, but right now I've only seen it on the green line/boxes.

I've also starting using PowerPro on some of my set-ups and have been pleased with it so far.

No, after several years of trying differant braids I only use 50lb Maxium. I wo`nt change brands again. Your reel can be the most important thing to keep from being frustrated. Lot of reels ca`nt handle the pressure(hang ups) and you need more distance between spool and guide on level wind than most baitcasters have. Low profile type reels seam to work better. You do`nt want braid on eveything. Best for Carolina rig main line. Up here at Alan Henry do`nt take long to figure whats good and whats not. Good Luck

I use Fireline on all my rigs and love it. I thought it was fraying also but it is just the coating coming off the line. It doesnt hurt the performance. The guys that fish for the big ones on El Salto use it day-in and day-out.
