I won't argue with you. I would however suggest you do a little more reading on the subject, particularly as it relates to making threats against the President because you are completely incorrect about the law in that case.
But I've gotten way off topic so I'll leave it at that.

Money makes people do dumb things...IMO the co angler did the right thing. It appears he gave the facts....NW - joking or not should be DQ'd.

Monty....I was thinking the same thing....now I am thinking that some maybe just really are not wise enough to look at something and interpret it correctly. He offered to buy a fish during a tournament......he tried to cheat.......he should be DQ'd. End of story. It's just that simple.
I hope that I don't have to fish against any of these guys on here that see it any other way and are defending him and his actions.

Nobody is defending Wellman's actions... I'm just not ready to condemn a man to death by what one other man said he said. The damage to his reputation alone is likely to end his professional career anyway.

The damage to his reputation alone is likely to end his professional career anyway. That's all I was saying as well. The punishment should fit the crime, and I don't think we need to string him up at the nearest hangin tree. He conspired to or attempted to cheat, he did not actually cheat. A lifetime ban seems overboard for what he actually did, especially since it's one mans word vs another's with no other witness's/evidence.

The only difference between attempting to cheat by buying a fish and actually cheating by buying a fish is the honest man in the back of the boat. The fact that he was thwarted shouldnt make it less of an offense. If the co hadnt been honest he would have bought that fish and noone would ever have heard about this. The thing for me is that he mentioned it many times and described how they would do it. Too thought out and planned to be anything remotely like a joke. As to whether or not he should be offically banned for life. It does not matter one bit if the man is banned for life. The backlash from all of this will probably cause him to fade into the background, much like the Keving Langill incident a couple years ago. The big thing for me is the anemic and inconsistent way the BASS handled this.

It does make a solid argument for Marshalls vs Co's but I guess a Marshall could be bribed as well but at least the temptation of added fish in the boat would go away. At least the Marshalls wouldnt be catching fish.

Very true Tim, but they don't have anything to lose for not turning them in like a co would if he observed something going on.
